As a starter kastmasters and other minnow lures work really well just hovering the bottom of deep pools. (20ish feet deep) This works especially well at lake temescal (I know there is no boat access :smt009) were the main diet of many fish are minnows and worms. this method can work trolling and casting, from shore or from boat.

If your using lures yes kastmaster are the way to go gold works better usally but silver produces more in very clear water. If your using bait you cant go wrong with powerbait or a nightcrawler . I fish regulary at shadow cliffs and del val you can always pm me if you wana go out good luck
