Do not have the kids this year, so was going to motor down to Oceanside and do some lobstering in the evenings, and fishing during the day. Crashing in the pickup truck. Company welcome. Not sure what days, but definately two nights, I am open on travel days.

Sounds very tempting.... I just need to find out which days we get off this year from work. Will get back to you as soon as I find out.  Planning to bring  yaks and hooping?

Yep! I got plenty of room for three people and their yaks. I have a spare prowler 13 to loan if needed. I went two years ago, and did awesome! Hired a 6 pack to go fish and hoop for bugs, then went in yaks. Got it fairly dialed in. Should be fun. If someone wants to go, and have vacation while I fish, that is cool. I am under the gun, my brother is flying home for Christmas, and put his order in for sheephead and lobster for X-mas dinner.

Rich - Sorry been out doing Army stuff. How does Wednesday (night) to Sunday sound? I have 4 crab rings as well, and 1 crab trap. I don't think you can use the trap down there. What will we be most likely to target for fishing?

I will be staying around Mission Bay (Crown Point) and fishing La Jolla over Thanksgiving break,  would you be interested in joining us if I could find you a free place to stay?

Good luck on the bug hunt. The regs for lobsters down south are different than crabs up north so you may want to check it out. Traps aren't allowed and a max soak time of 2 hours. Also a 5 hoop maximum south of Santa Barbara.

Yep. I ran an article for the sniffer on it. I chartered a boat to learn the fishing spots, then when sun went down we lobstered. Spent the rest of thanksgiving fishing shark, huge mackerel on sabikis, and lobstering. We are heading to Dana Point. Iroelike that might come with and has relatives close by. But heck ya! We need to take over SoCal, NCKA style!!

Works for me! Truck may be full now, Jeff might meet us there, if so, one spot left.

K, ryan, me, Pelyaker, Jeff. If Jeff meets us, or backs out (puss), one spot left. I can seat five, but that becomes a group vote, it gets cramped on that long of a trip.

You will need: lobster report card, lobster gauge (buy there) ocean stamp, up to 5 rings with at least 25' of rope with float, glo sticks for each hoop, each nite. Cap lamp, and spare flashlite! I have flares, and an air horn. We will be out there at nite people! I use a dive bag for bugs, but a burlap sack works great. Bring a cooler for your bevs, food, fish. I have a coleman for boilin bugs. Box of 1 gal ziplocs for fish fillets, and tails. Rods for rockfish/shark, light rod for making bait. Shark rigs depend on what is in-Mako, Thresher, etc., so I will make them up there, if anyone wants to get some with me. Live bait is off the hook pinned to the bottom, we can catch or buy it there. Last trip we got a large assortment of fish, including sheephead, tree, calico, misc reds, and lots of other fish. Pretty good action not far out of Dana Point/Oceanside.

Bam! Got everything except of course for live bait or dead bait. I have also never fished for shark so what stuff do I need for that?

Same rod as for rockfish. The SS leader is your safety, and you basically lock your drag, and kick back and drink a martini, until your line angle drops, then fight, run, fight until someone wins! I aint won yet on anything of size. I will have a sturgeon snare for our tooth friends.

Ryan, can you meet me at the house Thursday? We have one more open seat in my truck, and we have secured a place to crash in Escondido, leaving Thursday, coming home Sunday morning, or even Saturday night after lobster limits!  :smt006
