Just got a call from Frymaster1 asking to post up a heads up for anyone thinking of diving the cove in the next couple of days.  A couple of our members were diving inside SWS earlier and got paid a visit by the taxman.  No contact but close enough to scare em and long enough to ID it.  Other than the fact that both are safe and back on land, I don't know any other details.  They will post their account soon.

Tis the season.

was it hunting broadbill?

Ok, now i feel bad I made a joke on the surfer thread.

Spooky. Glad everyone is OK. They are out in force this week, probably due to all the bait activity.

No doubt it was a shark and very very sure it was a GWS. Bloodbath and I were diving (no yaks, only time so far I haven't dove without it) to the right of the pier I was just about half way between the point and the island in the middle. The vis was pretty shitty in close about 3' so I was moving out a little further to see if it was any better. It started to clear a little and the sandy churned up bottom gave way to some structure. The vis was around 10' or so and I could just make out some of the larger peaks of rocks when I saw it swim by. I was on the surface looking around and it was close to the bottom and just slowly swimming by. It was bigger than me that's for sure, I would say a solid 8'-10'. It swam off into the murk and that's the last I saw of it. I took a look around to see where Joe was, of course couldn't see him for a bit but finally located him and started swimming that way (quickly and quietly). Got back to him and asked what the biggest shark that he had seen out here was, don't remember what he said, but told him that's cool because I just saw a big one. Needless to say we headed in.

Had a great time today but now its starting to set in a little. I had some things to do tonight but I think I will just stay home and have some beers.

Take it or leave it but I'm gonna give him a little time to move on.

Glad you and Joe are OK Chris!!

Crazy...it's pretty shallow right there between that point and the island!!

He must've not set checked his calendar and seen that Sharktober is over!

Hope the sightings/contacts start declining soon....

Thanks for sharing buddy...

Sincerely,

Jim

When I saw the look on Chris's face, I knew he saw something big. I even asked him twice if he really saw a shark. We boogied back after he said yes for the second time. Chris stayed very calm and kept his composure the whole time. That is a great quality to have as my dive partner. This was the first time chris and I dove together as a team of two, very memorable, can't  wait to do it again.

Yeah it was only about 10-15' deep. Glad he wasn't hungry!!! I have always thought about all of the things that are around me that I don't see while diving. Would have rather had this be one of them.

By the way Albion was epic!!

Shit, glad everything turned out ok. Way to keep your composure out there. I would have been trembling with fear dude. After all the recent sightings I'm making the command decision to stay out of the water till December, F that.

There's all kinds of predators inside the kelp there.  3 weeks ago I was with Lucky13 and Golfish.  We were fishing in front to the Lone Cypress.  First there's the resident seal lions trying to snatch a free meal.  Then there was a solo dolphin swimming around us. All  inside the kelp.

This one's a bit freakier being on the inner cove, I've seen a few otters there but never any major marine life.  Even the seals that hang on the island don't really swim around in there.

Interesting, and very surprising. It's that time of year.

As for big animals in the cove, check it:

Been in the water for a while now surfing, scuba, snorkeling and have had plenty of seals, dolphins, and posessed pieces of kelp scare the shit out of me. This time it was the real deal. Surprisingly this time only a couple of things went through my mind.
1 that's a big shark couldn't be a Gws.
2 why am I so far from my friend and board.
3 animals can sense fear so if I pretend to not be afraid I should be fine.
4 why did I get a red float line (yes I know they smell blood, not see red).

My wife's rethinking the comment she made the other week. " I hope a big old shark eats you while you are shooting poor defenseless fish in their own home".
Jokes on her because I have no life insurance!
Glad to be on dry land and have both Joe and I safe and sound.

By the way, when you say north point, are you referring to Pescadero Point, the one with the big beige house along it?
