How about the option of members showing their location when they post.

I like that option! It's always nice to know where everyone is from :smt002 BUT you can always go into your profile and add your location yourself  :smt001

Mooch,
I entered my location in my profile, but it doesn't display anywhere when I post.  I know it could be put in the signature area as you have done, but the other members' locations are not shown either.  There is a lot about this stuff I don't know, so I'm not offended if you enlighten me.

Bill, you have a seriously good site already. In my humble opinion, splitting the forum up into so many different subsets is not a good idea. I think people are going to miss a lot of posts 'cause there will be too many different categories to check. As it is now, I notice that folks will sometimes post a gear question in "General," and it will get a lot of responses; whereas a similar post in "Rigging Tips" may go largely unanswered.
The 'yudder thing I noticed is that during the"off" season, the "General" section has been a big chat-fest (a good thing!), and that during the "on" season, the hook-up and fishing report sections seem to be the busy areas (info as well as social). If there were 500 or 1000 people posting regularly, the numerous sub-sets would be more warrranted, but we aren't there yet. I think cozy is better, and I think that's a big reason why this site is so awesome. I KNOW you guys, even if I haven't met you...
Just my 2+ cents.

Good points Rich! A couple of things I want to add are the Fly Fishing Section and a place where people can talk about specifc kayak brands. Maybe I will just add those sections and move some others around so the more popular are at the top.

One way to cut down on the amount you click around is to use the "Show unread posts since last visit." link at the top. That way you see all the new post regardless of what forum they are in. That is the only way I can keep up.  :smt003

Maybe I am missing another way to do it, but now that I am using the "show unread posts..." having a "return to top" button would be good..........or a helper monkey?.......... :smt008

Hey Gowen4bigfish I just noticed the fish you're holding is bigger than the person standing next to you  Must be a Smith or Eel River (or somewhere else up that way) salmon?

caught that up by Fort Brag along with one more that day, (yes it is a salmon)  but since I caught two one got donated to the camp for cooking before I could photo it. If I remember right it was about 32 lbs. one of the other guys camping with us one the pool with one that was about 5 lbs. bigger :smt005 great camping, fishing abalone diving week.  :smt001

The little one next to me is my daughter who was 3 1/2 was probable under 3' ft. so she helped my fish look big. She was truly amazed that I had caught fish that big, I look forward to taking her out fishing when she gets past the ants in the pants age. ( can't set still) lots of energy, gets it from her Mom.  :smt003

Bill, never mind on the "return to Top".  If I hit "home" I return to top and if I hit "end" I go to the bottom of the page......cool........... :smt001

Looks good Bill, particuarly the Kayak flyfishing forum. Excellent job! you da man.
Why Do I paddle a kayak instead of a float tube or a pontoon boat? I like seeing where I'm going not where I've been!
Paddle safe and wrap'em tight.

Bill, I was thinking that it might be interesting to be able to attach GPS tacks and way point files that people save to their fishing reports.  I know of at least one free version of software that excepts data from most of the more popular GPSs and saves it in a standard format.  I know based on the where people work section that there are a bunch of guys a lot smarter than me that might beable to recomend the best way to do it with all the different types of GPS the group uses.  I think it would be interesting to open a datafile and see where people paddled.
