Got a late start and arrived at the launch ramp at about 10:00AM. Tote and his son were just launching as I pulled up. They were running late also! They paddled out ahead of me to where Erik, Joel, Troy, Chris, and James were already soaking bait out on the flats. A quick radio check verified that not much was going on. I dropped anchor, casted out my ghostshrimp and settled in. Shortly after arriving the wind picked up and the chop got bad so we retreated into the somewhat calmer conditions of the river entrance. Stuck it out in there for a few hours then the crew started departing one after another. I think only one small striper was caught by the lot of us. Weather ranged from cold, windy, rain to a few moments of warm sunshine. We fished a moderate incoming and Joel, Troy, and myself were off the water by a little after 3:00PM.

Good exercise and good company.

Here's some pics.

BTW - I found out why my kayak was leaking so bad. When I was storing it just now I heard something rolling around in the hull. Reached in and pulled out the bottom cap of my rod holder. I had no idea it was just a pop on plastic piece at the bottom of that thing. Pretty cheesy. I just popped it back on, but should probably find a way to make it more leak-proof.

After today I think I might just take my tax return and buy a new yak. The little Caper just don't do chop too well. Especially with my fat butt in it.

How did I not have more water in my hull?

Yeah... it was nice to get out and get a little exercise anyway.  Only one lil' striper for me all day... didn't mark too many fish either.  There were a couple of jumpers spotted throughout the day.  Good to see you guys again... hopefully the bay will clear up pretty soon so we can get after the Butts and Stripers.

Did get a late start. I thought the launch was at the marina side. I walked over to the dock only to see everyone with their kayaks on the OTHER side of the river at the boat launch. I scored some bait then drove to the launch site.
Dustin pulled up just as Jackson and I were launching. His report is very accurate. I just wish we had more time to settle in before the wind came up. I was busting up when the rain and wind did a nice combo on us all. I found a lot of humor in the thought of passing up a relaxing day of sleeping in and drinking a hot drink in front of the fireplace kicked back with no worries as opposed to driving 250 miles round trip to get less sleep, spend money on gas and bait, and sit in crappy weather on a little piece of plastic in the middle of choppy water to catch no fish. I would take it over sitting at home any day! Still cracks me up thinking about it.
We left the water around 2pm as we had a 124 mile drive back home. Stopped off at Taco Bell in Vacaville for a Crunch Wrap Supreme and a well needed nap. The rest of the drive home was a snap after that.
If I add it all up I have driven over 1000 miles in search of sturgeon love and have a big fat ZERO to show for it. Just makes it sweeter for when it does happen.
Took a pic of Chris CPKAYAK and my son Jackson before the wind got too nasty.

Maybe he is praying to the beer gods. :party
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

Hi, Tote

It is understandable of how you felt after you drove that long (200+ miles) and caught no fish, actually, no bites. It kind of sucks. :smt009 I just hope that one good day would come to you and your boy, since you made extra effort - getting extra earlier, driving extra long, paying extra gas etc.

At the meantime, you may want to consider relocating  - nearby the ocean, :smt006 given how serious fisherman you are.
