Two weeks of fighting a cold and constant travel for work to the east coast has made me miss being salty.  I gave Baitman a call to ask him where I could go near Santa Cruz, and that being in his backyard, he decided to give me a tour.  Thankful as I was, I am a total newb to fishing in general, I was stoked that he offered to teach me.  He joked about how much he didn't know about computers and used that to compare to how much I didn't know jack about fishing.  @#$%^&*&^%$#

We met up at the Bayside shop in the morning, he picked out some arsenal for me and we got on our way.  Weather was foggy in the morning as we headed out, but cleared during the day and even flattened out.  First time I saw a seal, sea otter, and a pod of dolphins in the same day, totally awesome.

Baitman had a torpedo mounted on his Raptor, and he flew passed me.  I did it the old fashion way of paddling.  After donating 5 swimbaits and 5 sardines to mother nature, I caught a undersized ling 21" for the first time.  WHY ME!!! WHY COULDN'T IT BE 1" BIGGER!  lol, none the less the hunt was fun.  God damn, kayak fishing is not easy.  Takes patience and some know how.  I got to give you guys props for this sport.  Its fun when you catch something big.

In the back of my mind I was thinking, damn! I could of at least caught a limit of RF spearfishing in this time.  LOL

This is the first time I couldn't sleep because my muscles were so sore, and when I got home that evening, I totally collapsed.  The pain was killing me all night and even the next day.  As of now I am fine... but damn... that is the most I ever paddled.

Newbie, signing off..... Chaeki

Thanks for the nice video. The conditions looked great for fishing.

Good stuff chaeki.  Do I hear your muscles whispering torpedo? :smt044

Saw you struggling with the ling in the net.  Try one of these.

Lol, we were talking about your setup on the water.  I really need to wrap my lures like you do, for quick deployment. Also, I cut some line off because they snagged.  If it gets close to the braided line, do I go get more mono added?

Do a google search for kayak paddling technique. Proper form can really cut down on how much muscle you use.

For that length of time on the water, I find that a good seat cushion is a necessity . You could buy a gel. I use a Foodsaver vacuum bag with water in it . Works fine and can last two seasons. Not too much water, it will firm up when you sit on it.

Not tryin' to be a d*ck, but does anyone really wanna keep a little skinny ass 22" ling?

... but does anyone really wanna keep a little skinny ass 22" ling?

The reason why F&G reduced the size limit was lowered from 24" to 22" for lings was to try to reduce the population of them. They are creating a negative impact on the Rockfish popluation by eating the smaller rockfish.

So I was told numerous reputable fisherman to retain any legal size ling; even the 22ish size.

Just my 2 cents...
