Fished Howe today, 10/08/11, from 6:45am to 10:00am.  Hooked one at 8:00. 8 poundish.  K13 lighted kwikfish, chartreuse and chrome. 1.5 oz in line weighted. 40 foot back.  The best part of the day was meeting all the NCKA members.  I was fishing in an aluminum boat but will get the kayak out there soon.  Will fish Sunday morning, please say hi and share some tales.  Boat is 12', big net i back :smt001 :smt006 and blue seat in front.

First off let me first say welcome! Were you the one I spoke with? I was in the red kayak......

Secondly, this too was my first time fishing the AR for salmon; and boy did I make newbie mistakes....

1.) While I really REALLY love my Raptor, I am not the fastest paddler to begin with. Many fellow NCKA brothers at the launch ramp got to watch a newbie paddle his ass off for 15 minutes and not move more than 5 feet up river.... I finally figured it out but expended vast amounts of energy paddling upriverto Watts....
2.) While at the island by the Watt street launch, I hooked into a bohemath, who took 3/4 of my calcuta 400 spool before I tried to slow him down. Applying more pressure on the spool than I should, the salmonzilla manage to pry open  my swivelsnap and swim off with my favor hand made spinner......

On the brighterside, great f-ing day to be on the water. Got to hang out with my fellow NCKA bros who I have missed in over month and a half. Ricci, the BBQ salmon was off the hook,  Jed thanks for the empanadas, thanks to those who took the time to show us newbies how to fish in your backyard; next time Adam, a little more clarity on which direction to go. Some of oldies folks don't hear as well as we should. Craig didnt mind being marooned on the island with; next time please come running faster when i start screaming like a little girl. Novofish and Noaki, nice job on being the hot stick, you guys rock! VWOOL, had a blast with you and  Jedmo both on and off the water.....

Can't wait to see you guys at Tiki!

(Pictures to come shortly)

Way to go out there guys.  I hit another section of the river with Abdiver for some action.  Stopped by to see Ricci and the gang down at the spot.  Wish I could have stayed and bbq'd with you guys but the lady was calling.

It was nice talking to you again other day, JD!
I didn't realize that we have met bunch of times at Port last year until you told me that you have trolling motor on your blue kayak (& CF registered).
Hope to see you on the water again & bring your yak (this weekend perhaps?) :smt006

Sounds like a fun spot to fish and I may head that way this weekend.  So I'm a nob to kayaks with a few trips and maybe 40 miles total of lake paddling.  What can I expect on the American?  I'm not superman but in decent shape, will I be able to paddle up river or is a float and shuttle the best way to go?  Are you guys fishing flies or gear?

I had my first visit to the American River this summer for spey casting lessons and I like it.  The water looks clean and it's somewhat conveinent since I work in the bay area frequently.

Fished Sat. and Sunday (10-22 and 10-23-11). No luck.  Only heard of a few caught.  A lot are jumping but not biting. What's up with that?

Was out scouting tonight 10/25/11 and saw a nice salmon caught off the Guy West bridge.  Fisherman was using roe.  He had already caught a couple of others and since they were males he gave them away.  Will be out tomorrow afternoon.  Keep your line tight. Jim Sawdust Spangler.
