Looking to do my first trip in the salt... mostly use my yak in fresh water..  anyone heading out tomorrow ???  I would love some company and any help I can get.. Thinking halibut off Crissy field but will accompany someone with knowledge over spots I have fished in boats!
Let me know if you have room for one more tomorrow..  or for that matter any tue. thur, sat, or sunday this week.
Ok.. this is my first time on this site and I know in my neck of the woods we just don't take any yahoo fishing.. specially to our favorite spot.   Not looking for that ...for now.  Just want to get out and see some spots that are save and may hold fish.
Maybe I can sweeten the deal.. I am a guide on the upper Green in Wyoming and waters around the Provo Weber and streams of the Uintas.. I will take you on a tour of the Utah waters and fish some with you.... timing is flexible...\
thanks.,

Welcome borntofish. Nice to have a big sky dude among us. If your first saltwater outing is in the Bay,  use caution.  I fished crissy field area and didn't find it too demanding.  However, I would get a good tide book, check the tides, ebb/flow/slack, and plan my trip accordingly.  As I recall, the closer you get to the gate, the faster the rip is.  I have  called Fort Baker Coast Guard Station  before.   They are ready to give you good info to keep you safe.  Do you have a marine radio?  If not--be doubly safe.

Thanks to everyone for sending ideas and your words of caution.  I know the Bay some as I grew up here but I still want to go with a group or individual for safety and the local knowledge of tides, bottom structure etc..   Thought it might be better on the bay than on the ocean but some of you have suggested Santa Cruz and Monterey.  \

thanks again for all the help.  Hope to see some of you on the water.

Crissy Field for first "bay" outing may be pushing it, but the tides get better next weekend if you're still interested in that spot.  Less than a foot of difference between tides = not much tidal current.  Stripers along the Marin shore would be a good first stop, or maybe Paradise for Halibut and even Salmon (county park in Tiburon).  Marin shore launch at the Brickyard is super easy (as long as the tide is 1ft or higher).  Access to Brickyard & Marin Islands from here, and even China Camp if you go a little to the north.  Pt. San Pedro Rd. @ Riviera Drive in San Rafael, about 3.5 miles from Central San Rafael exit of 101.
