Finally spec'd out a trip and even landed a co-pilot!  Me and the locally world famous Moocharoni will trudge off for some late summer high altitude trout action.  Should be fantastic, we'll be gasping for O2 like crazy LOL.  Hitting Saddlebag Lake and the 20 Lakes basin.  Probably staying in a cabin at Twin Lakes Resort and/or if feeling really adventurous at Virginia Creek Settlement.

Only constraint is that I must be back for a conference in Santa Clara by Thursday.  Otherwise, we're pretty flexible and really looking forward to first trip exploring the area.

Meet us up there if you can extend your Labor Day weekend a bit.  Or PM us some helpful intel re: fishing and food.

"You have several options and all involve crossing the Sierra. You take Hwy 50 to 89, south to 88 and south to Hwy 395 in Minden or Hwy 395 near Topaz via Markleville. You can cross the Sierra on Hwy 88 off Hwy 99 through Jackson, past Kirkwood over the Carson Pass and on to Minden and Hwy 395, or through Markleville to Hwy 395 near Topaz."

If you are going the 88 route let me know. I'll have a peach cobbler in the oven for you.

the bunkhouse at virginia creek is a nice cheap option for 3 or 4 if you gotta be indoors,  we had the John Wayne room on our last visit and they even loaned us a stepladder to get in and out of the bed.  Dunno what this says about me or them but its my first choice out on 395.  I like the tanks of fish out back and the food is great too

Sounds like a great trip!
Fished the East Walker below Bridgeport years ago.
Smallest Browns on flies were 14"
Twin Lakes - big Browns
Saddlebag lake - cold at nite, I think the elev. is about 10,000. Bring warm bags.
Wish I could go along, that area is awesome, a great drive!

i have back packed there many, many times.   Most all the lakes back there hold fish - brookies, rainbows and goldens.    The brookies should be harvested because they overpopulate -  and they are absolutely delicious.   As you hike between lakes, dont forget the little connecting streams, as they are full of fish.    Any little dry fly works up there.

Would love to join you, as that is an absolutely beautiful place.    Easiest access is via 120 just beyond Tuolumne Meadows.

Dont forget the mosqito repellent.
