They call it Hurricane Gulch for a reason, The forecast was for 20 mph winds by 11am lasting through the afternoon.

By the time I got to the launch at 8am it was already blowing, I rigged up the kayak and just as I put the wheels on it realllllly started blowing,
I can't remember ever thinking "fug this" but part of me was ready to bail on the whole idea.

The Clash came to mind:
Should I stay or should I go now?
Should I stay or should I go now?
If I go there will be trouble
An’ if I stay it will be double

FUG IT I made my way to the water, on the way to get bait the wind actually died down a bit, or so I told myself...

Paid Mike the 10 + 5 and went on my way...I had planned on crossing the channel to explore some new spots
but by the time I got to the bouy I decided to save that for another day.

I changed plans, basically do some drifts deep and fish my way back shallow,
I caught a couple sand bastards, and a lonely lizard... then 2 shorts butts
I was near some kelp and the wind started its 20 mph show, GOD I HATE THE FREAKIN WIND

Just as I was thinking "lets get the fug outta here" one rod goes off, I grabbed a stringer and threw it under my leg
the fish felt decent and when I got it to the surface I could see it was hooked good, I decided to try and video it, the filming was going pretty good then the rod I had stashed in the flush mount went off... toss the camera down, reel in fish #1 a good 26"er released, grab the other rod another 26-27"er, grabbed this one by the head and put her on the game clip

I figure I was done for the day and I might as well keep one for a fresh Hali dinner, but then again I have a full tank of dines so I decide to go ahead and drop another down,
"Pot Holing For Halibuts" tied to the stringer I ended up catching two more legals and released them both.

I finally had enough of the wind and started making my way back, fishing along the way.
I sure would like a bigger model I told myself
I sure would like to be off this fuggin kayak treadmill I told myself
I shouldn't keep talking to myself I told myself

Besides... the voice in my head that says STAY ON THE WATER is always the one who wins... who am I kidding

I ended up catching a couple more sand bass and a couple more shorts and one barely legal
by this time the wind was freakin brutal, the fly backwards if you stop paddling kind of wind
you know when the lifeguards go out of their way to come by and check on you kind of wind.

"Look at that kook in the kayak... it doesn't look like he is even moving"

anyway...
sometimes being a kook pays off  :smt003
I got that bigger model I was looking for... she is no Monster or PB, but I don't know that I have worked harder fish a fish in along time...

Oh and I got see Hobies new Pro Anglers being demoed on the beach...SICK!

Halibuts never cease to amaze me, I LOVE fishing for WSB and Yellows on the iron are touted as "The best", but you tell me how a fish bites, swallows, inhales, runs, then pukes a bait out leaving you scratching yer head like this?

The bigger legal of the day...

The dogs love when dad brings the white cooler in the back yard... Sashimi time!

Looking forward to the next trip already...
