Here is a great link to check before you go to a new area to fish here in CA. It for the California Ocean Sport Fishing Regulations Map. Click on the area that you intend to fish and the new page gives you a list of open and closed fisheries for that area as well as any regulations regarding them. As a bonus it appears that the DFG is keeping the map up to date.

Also does anyone know of an online map that shows the protected/off limits areas for fishing in California? I am think about using google earth to add dynamic layers for things like that.
