I don't fish; but, I'm here cause I'm going to fish!  And I can usually smell out a good deal...

Been reading the boards and talked to a couple folks about rods.  Several have mentioned the Okuma Baidarka Kayak Rod - hmmm, $119.  Well how does $69 and free shipping strike you?  Should I go for it (fresh water - for now - bass, trout).

Actually, fished many years ago.  Salt - blues, mullet, coraker, rays, sharks (off the Morehead City, NC piers).  Fresh -  catfish.  Time to step up the game and learn more about how to fish local.

Kenny WTTM! I broke one of those 7'6" Okumas and others had problems as well. The 7'0" model is good and if you can find one of those I'd pick it up. Still using mine and it's my favorite saltwater rod. jim

Well, it seems overpriced relative to $15!  http://www.candjsportsinc.com/product_p/bk-c-761l.htm

Of course, I didn't bother to spec out the total purchase price, may be C & J charges $60 shipping!   :smt044

The Baidarka was discontinued which is why it is on sale. Some of the saltwater models had a defective blank and were prone to breaking. In addition the guides were prone to ring failures. Bottom line is get a better rod like an Ugly Stick which is in that price range.

I just tried checking out the shipping and it says "we will email a re kept with the total after checkout", or something to that affect. I think the shipping will be high, but 15 sounds good at least.

The newest baidarkas had repaced the guides with black SS. Doing away with the guides that had inserts. This rod that is up is too light for salt IMO and too long to deal with fish comfortably. Get a trevala. You wont be sorry.

Thanks for the info guys!  That's why these forums are so great - glad I didn't pull the trigger.  But, $15 - that's crazy and perhaps testament to the flaw mentioned.

I'm just a newbie but I have  two that I got for $69 from Hi's so far they've been good.
My next rod will be an ugly stick.
