The big, non-yak ling and the very small, non-yak ling from Kodiak - July of '07. The big ling pegged the 50 lb scale, and measured 54 inches along the inside curve when in the cooler. The little one is far and away the smallest ling I've ever caught. Both on the same day. Note the ugly Alaskan weather.

Yak caught ling of approximately 25 lbs or so. The greenling in its mouth was about a 2 lber. That's a 12 oz jig head, for reference.

Underwater shot of another 25-30 lb ling. If I had known that my buddies on the powerboat had blanked on lings, I'd have kept it. As it was, I already had about 55 lbs of fish in the hull, as I was just keeping about half a dozen good sized blacks plus the ling :)

This Red was caught at Van Dame this last fall. The "Hole In The Head"  had no scars or visible trauma. Later on I regretted keeping the fish being that it had obviously survived a near miss sometime in it's past. More unfortunately  the  picture was with a funky throw away camera due to me soaking my digital at Silver Lake the prior weekend.

Weird! I caught a verm that had a big lump on its head too! Not as dramatic as the one above, but similar.

This is a juvenille canary rockfish. If you catch one of these, it must be released. And if you're catching a lot of them, it is best practice to move to a different spot.
