As some of you may or may not know I am in the Army and my unit is getting deployed to Afghanistan early next year. One of the guys in my unit is an avid fisherman and I talk to him about fishing and kayak fishing alot. Long story short he is a big guy in need of a kayak. I know its a tall order but his limit is $200 for something to get on the river and lakes. I honestly do not expect too much but I did tell him I would see what I could find.

Thanks
Ryan

Find him a loaner and take him to Caples so he's officially entered into Yakhopper's raffle then and he has a chance of winning one for free.

Sorry Ryan, that's the best I can do!

Have him get a hold of H.O.W. where he can a least hook up with us and try a few out. Have him PM me. Frank
PS: He's more then welcome to come and join us at Kelsey Bass Ranch on the 10th of Sept. This event is for veterans and we came make room for active duty.

:smt006 I have a second set up yak I could bring to Caples for him to use... If he had more to spend would be easier to find one. A lot of us have an extra yak... When you post a hookup ask if anyone can bring Yak for him to use.  :smt003 glad you can introduce a buddy to the madness.  :smt044 my xtra has fish finder ect already mounted...
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Absolutely talk to us!!!

are you in Sacramento?  Kelsey would be a good gig...

I know some one who has a Wilderness " Ride..."  Big yak... I'll check if they are into getting rid of it...

There is also a HOW program to get wounded vets kayaks at a discount....

Still working on it, but I'll check if it applies to all service members too...

I am not sure he will be able to go to Caples, I will check, same with Kelsey. We are both in Sacramento.

I am still in the Army but am also a war veteran (Iraq), where as he has not been deployed. So where is the line for H.O.W.? I thought it was just for wounded veterans, not non-wounded veterans like me.

Anything priced < 200 would not be worth buying.  Use a loaner from among the many generous, meanwhile save some cheddar and pick one up upon return from deployment.

Ya,  +1 on that,

you can come to the kelsey gig, we will just put ya to work!!!   :smt002

The discounted yak for vets things, I'm just not sure how it works, I've gotten a few wounded vets interested and then I get the ball rolling, and then they don't call back...

If your down by San Diego, I know CJ at OEX can help ya...

Paddle boy in Lodi might be another one to look into,

and did you receive the PM from BigJ?

let me check with National again how this program is progressing and how it works...

it would seem to me that all service members should qualify, but that's just me....

oh, and to both of ya....

Thanks for your service!!!   :salut: :salut:

Ditto.  And what's he going to use to buy a PFD, radio, paddle, and paddle wear?

He can borrow my Manta Ray 14 any time.  But like the man says, save up!  This hobby is free after the initial investment.  But one should expect to pay at least as much on essential gear as for the yak itself.

I know this guy and fish with him regularly.......he is good people and LOVES to fish.
He lives right on the AR upstream from Watt so if anyone is ever coming to this area with an extra yak that's awesome!

Howdy Ryan,,, let me know what size PFD your buddy would wear and/or his chest size and where to send a PFD.  I'll get one sent out.  Cheers, Adrien.
If they weren't supposed to be eaten, God wouldn't have made them so damn tasty.
