Blue Rockfish that is!!

 :smt003

Took my brother in law Danny out for his first time spearfishing....went back to an area I was at with my Dad last week where I had seen quite a few blues....still FAC so we got right up next to the rocks in shallow, and despite the hazy viz it was easy pickings on the schoolie blues that were up shallow and feeding on big fat jellyfish.

 :smt004

After I shot my limit I helped point fish out to Danny and he got his 10 pretty quick!! Strong work for his first time!!

I then spent at least an hour or so hunting for a Ling, out deep (for me, 42 feet), in shallow and everywhere in between.  I actually spooked a BIG Ling in about 6 feet of water...was looking in a hole and then looked up into the hole above me, and saw the underbelly and fins and bottom of a FAT Ling....swing the gun around nice and slow, but he spooks and vanishes and then a wave washes me out of the area... :smt009

Back at the beach we chilled with Andy FM1, Cochino Chris and Andy's buddy Chris...Andy fried up Rockies, Alaskan Halibut, Crappie and Chicken legs...SO GOOD!!   :smt007 :smt007 :smt007

My parents rolled down with Valentina and Danny's fiance for the chill part of the day.  :smt003

Took Valentina out on the yak to try and let her catch a fish out by the island, but nobody wanted to bite her line....she had a blast anyway!!   :smt004

When we were packing up a guy named Garret rolls up and says, "Hey you're the eel guy from NCKA".. :smt044 :smt044 :smt044

Lurker, but hopefully will join soon...super nice guy...gave him some hints on areas to explore, and he rewarded me with a cold beer...cracked up when the beer he gave me was a Bud Light Lime!!   :smt002 :smt003 :smt005 :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 :smt044

Great times with good people....hope you enjoy the vid! Looks best in 720p.

Jim

Wow that WAS a FISHY area!!! They were really schooled up.  Great vid, especially like when you lovingly caress the RF after putting a knife or spear into it's head. :smt001 I love these diving videos, they help me understand what it looks like where Im fishing.  Great report, sounds like a great day! Another epic BigJim video, :smt044, congrats to Danny for having a great first outing. I find myself living vicariously thru your videos, as I'm to far away and too old to dive the ocean again.
But I won't sell my dive gear because the desire still exists. :smt002
I just love your vids. & choice of music.  :smt007
Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.

Nice video Jim! You have definitely put a decrease in the fish population down there lately. Bout time you came up north and got some fish and abs! Let me know when you do.

My new suit is awsome!!! Thanks to everyone who payed it foreward!!! You have no idea how good it feels to get back in the water again..I have had some pretty stressfull months but slipping into the ocean is the thereapy much needed... This day I concentrated on Kristhoper....He didnt shoot any fish but thats ok. His comfort level is really starting to show. We dove shallow for A few hours and did some hole hunting. Its A real treat to be able to dive with my twelve year old son. Hes rteady to take it to the next level. He is now able to load his own gun and even took A few shots but missed. I managed one fish that was holed up amd saw many otheres that were just too deep in holes for my big ass gun..Anyways had A great time with Jim and his family...
