If you are planning a fishing trip, maybe we can hook-up. I fish from an Agean Sky-Blue Kayak. I will be fishing mostly this summer at Lake Shasta for sturgeon.

The 1st time was heard of sturgeon fishing at Shasta Lake. Can you share some experience or pictures there, if any?

Would these sturgeon count for the pool?  Do they taste like ocean sturgeon?

A sturgeon is a sturgeon, just like a salmon caught in a river is still a salmon.  :smt003

The new slot limit only applies to the delta.

Shasta lake is divided into 2 parts by the locals. The upper lake holds the trout and such and the lower lake holds the sturgeon and I guess the salmon. Be sure to get a 10 day forecast for that area if you go out. It is only about a 3-4 hour drive for me but the passes have to be clear for me to make it downhill. See you there. The record for a sturgeon is around 100+lbs.

Nice to meet a fellow north-state kayaker!  I haven't been to this site in a while, matter of fact I couldn't even remember my password!  But, i'd definitely like to take you up on your offer to hook a few!  I fish Shasta at least once a week this time of year, as well as the Sacramento River, Whiskeytown, and a host of smaller waters in the Redding area.  Of course, with the nasty weather it's been awfully tough to get out.  Your sturgeon adventure sounds like a great time.  I haven't tried it myself, but had an uncle who sturgeon fished Shasta quite a bit.  Let me know what kind of timeframe your thinking, and we can make some plans.  Also, have you had a chance to check out the crappie bite on Britton???  Things should be warming up a bit...
Tight Lines,
Ben

Lake Britton last year was different. I went there and there was a couple guys with a cooler stacked half full of Crappie, and they were tossing at the boat ramp/ pier. Fished Crystal in the kayak but nothing, and then tossed a few at the bridge to the right of the hatchery. Let me know if you are going to Burney; it's only 80 miles from alturas, or maybe eagle lake. There is going to have to be better weather for me to drive down hill tho. Right now I'm fishing Dorris Res. which is a drive up res and only 3 miles from town. Let me know when you think the weather is ok for shasta and I will see if I can make the drive. Maybe some other folks can make a trip of it also.
