In the last week a bear got tangled in the electric fence around our chicken coop, a Cooper's Hawk flew away with a chick and a mountain lion ate our kitty  :smt010

Our dog treed the mountain lion tonight.

I have a recurve that would have worked.. or a 30-06, but the lions usually don't cause us much trouble and don't lurk for more than a day or two.

Good call. Anyone that would kill a mountain lion for eating a few chickens is an idiot and truly has no respect for the outdoors. It's easy to get a few more chickens.

I've had our entire flock of chickens and ducks killed by a bear over the course of two nights. The way I see it they need the food more than we do.

That lion will go a long ways toward making the local deer population much more healthy.

Wow. Sorry for your losses, but those all sound like bad-ass things to witness!

Great pics of the kitty.

Wow, that would make me keep the pets indooors.  If you want to report it as a trouble lion, I know the Dept. of Fish and Game Biologist for Mt. lions and send you his contact info.  Super nice guy.

Thanks, but I don't plan on getting a depredation permit unless it sticks around for a while.

If he is eating out of peoples backyards don't think he will be doing much deer hunting cats, dogs and chickens are much easier.
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

You could be right. I imagine the lion won't live long if it lives only on pets and livestock because someone is bound to take matters into their own hands.

I used to see bear scat that had the usual manzanita berries in it but also plastic bags and pieces of chewed up tin can so I think some animals will feed on both natural and unnatural food at the same time.

I hope the lion figures out which is better sooner than later.

The population density where I live is such that the Lion would not be able to sustain itself by eating pets/livestock.
