Ana is going in tomorrow to get induced since she is past her due date and having some blood pressure issues.

So, one more chance to get out and harvest some fresh fish to held feed the house full of ravenous inlaws that have moved in with us while we wait for the baby to arrive!
 :smt003

Up at 4, on the road at 5, paddling by 6.

FAC, but suuuuper low tide.  Even outside the main cove the viz was off (for this area) and was a hazy/snowy 8-10 feet. The lack of light under the kelp canopy (combined with no sun yet) didn't help either!  :smt005

Explored around the rocky shallows for awhile and found plenty of decent sized rockfish, but none of the cabbies or eels that I was hoping for. Also found a FAT scallop, but the spot is in a no-invertebrate take zone so controlled myself and let it be.   :smt002

Saw a school of little squid that were really cool looking!! 1:40 in the vid.

Swam back to the yak and put the 4 fish I had shot so far on the clip, and then decided to try and find a deep hole that Joe and I had spotted last time down at 41 feet.  After a few exploratory drops I found the blocks and the dropoff that I knew were right above the hole.

Breathed up and dove down (1:59 in the vid) and found the cave right where I thought it would be....dark and deep, with a bunch of rockfish swimming in and out of it...perfect looking spot for a sea monster...stuck my head and flashlight in as far as I could and looked all around hoping to see a biig ling or cabbie or eel....nothing.  :smt009

Shot one of the rockies on the way out and zoomed back to the surface.   :smt003

Finished my limit off with a mix of blues, kelpies and black and yellows, cleaned the fish back at the yak, and back at the beach by 9am.

Gonna cook all fish tonight and go with Ana at noon tomorrow to check into the hospital to go meet Jayme Mishel!

Jim

So you are finally taking a day off out of the water.  Bet the fish will be happy :smt005  Keep momma happy at the hospital and later at home keep mommy and the little one happy.  Hope the relatives enjoy the fruits of your labor, the catching and cooking.

Jim, You are definitly one of the Mitchel Bros. of fish porn.  Gotta Love It.  Thoughts, Prayers, good wishes to Ana, and you also.  Remeber to polish the shotgun, hide the car keys, lock up the liquor because next thing you know the little darlins' make you  grandparents.
