So me and the Gf headed down to Los Angles for the weekend, I was becoming the Godfather of my cuzzins Kid! Lucky for us, my uncle left his boat on the truck after an all week camping trip at Lake Skinner and decided to take it out Sat. 7-9...The word was the Barracuda were still out there on the prowl and the sandbass! Its always a Joy fishing down here, especially from a boat! Pelagics Galore!....Anyways we make a quick stop at the bait recievers to get some bait, Anchovies and Live Squid, and we were off! Started fishing by 730, first for sandbass but the bite was slow so we headed to the fleet of boats where apparently the Barracuda where! :smt001...The fishing was spotty out there for awhile, we would catch a few and then would have to move again to find the fish! Theres nothing like fishing a fresh live bait on top with just a bare hook! We would have 6 six lines out on top and see Barracuda boiling and jumping around us and we would wait to see who would get hit! We all missed a few too! My cuzzin even got a small Thresher Shark but the line snapped after getting him boatside! What a sight and it was really kool to see! Around 1, we stopped chasing barracuda and tried for sandbass again but it was still slow and only scratched up a few...the evening breeze started to come so we decided to try for Halibut at a local spot within the LongBeach breakwater. Lucky for us we bought squid!...This is when and where the fishing really just busted loose for us. :smt007...We get to the spot and on our first drift and drop we immediately start catchin fish, but on Squid and only squid! Thats what they wanted so we gave it to them!..We caught 5 halibut within 45mins. including 2 keepers. On our last drift i get bit, and set the hook and felt like i was snag. Then I feel these viscious headshakes and knew it was a goodfish. So excited, i was tellin everyone else this fish has weight! Get the fish in the boat and its a nice 9lb. hali and probably 30in.! Not a monster but my personal best, I was Stoked!..after that we headed in and had a Fat Fish taco fry at my Grandmas with family and friends
later that evening where it was the end of great day with family. What a mini vacation! Fishworks

Wow... excellent report and very nice pics.  Congrats on a great day of fishing and your best hali.

Nudling, Spinal Tap, and I were further down south this weekend, but you did much better than we did.

Tight a$$ report!  I know that area well, miss it badly, and always want to go back.  Glad you guys knocked the stuffin out that egg McMuffin.

Q:  Do you think you could have covered that same area as effectively in a yak?  Inside the LB Jettys is super calm and lots of baytubers hit the area.

Great report Ricci!  Sounds like everybody had a blast.

I'll second the kudos on becoming The Godfather of your cousins child!

my uncle left his boat on the truck

You car-top that big ole boat?  :smt003   I'm reading away thinking you guys must be crammed into a little aluminum and finally get down to the pictures and am like, no way!

Me and christ hit that area last year off of kayaks and launched rite off of belmont shores and paddled out to that same island you see in the picture! Its definetly doable no problem, especially in alamitos bay, but i wont fish out there in my yak again unless its right off of the beaches for halibut! Theres WAy too much BIg Boat traffic out there and a few times these f$%%ing Big Yachts just blew right by us! The long beach breakwaters have tons of fish but its like a 4 mile paddle out from the nearest beach launch and theres just tons of boats out there! Cabrillo and Dana Point is the place to be off off the yak! from what I heard! Thanks guys for kind words, I was due for some good fishin, its been awhile! Seriously! see ya all at Albion!
