For a live well you need to make sure that water circulates. Sardines will die if the water does not circulate even if you have air. You will need a bilge pump that can be bought at West Marine, a switch, a tank, and a battery, along with some hoses. You can find online how to make it if you google it.

There have been many bait tank projects here in this site, try the search function.  I'm sure you'll find what you need.

Hey pinoykeith,

I'm also building a livewell at the moment.  Spent a lot of time researching before I started.  You might want to downsize your aerator to possibly a Attwood Tsunami 500 or maybe the Rule 360.  Using a 12V battery even those will flow way too much water for that bucket your building.  That 800 will create a tornado that will fling those sardines back to the ocean.  If it was gifted to you or you got a great deal and are set on using it, you'll probably want to power it with a 6v battery set-up which will slow down the pump speed.  If you haven't got a set plan as of yet, there is this good video for a basic build bait bucket.

It's a fairly simple and effective set-up.

Good luck.  I will be posting my build shortly have one little bug to work out and a couple of cosmetic touches to do.

Here is another great basic write-up.

And on the left side of his webpage there is a link for "QuietMan's Bait Tank".

Sorry about that CGN should of tested it.  He must be hosting his own stuff.  I fixed the original link to hit his home page and then on the left side column there is a link for "Quietmans Bait Tank" that will direct you to his build.

What's the survival rate of each species?  I made one, but haven't used it enough to tell.

'chovies are the only ones that seem to have the hardest time. I figure two or three in the tube is plenty. You can always jig up more
