I wanted to open this discussion up. I've never been a superstitious persons but after many years of fishing
I can't help but believe certain ones.

My favorite superstition is not to have a woman on board a boat- "it's bad luck" but a naked woman will calm the seas??  :smt005

Another one is never have a Banana on board. I certainly believe this one after Adam's attack by the GWS. The first thing i saw before he got hit was a floating banana peel past my kayak.  :smt010

What do you think? L.A

Yup....in addition to no bananas and yes to scantly clad women I never screw with sea birds as they house the souls of dead skippers, dollar bill under the first wraps of mono/spectra on a new reel for luck.

I once went out with Khanh (before he became a professional skipper) running for albies. During an excessively long period between bites, he asked in an accusing tone "WTH did you get laid last night?". As if one thing caused or was related to the other.

Apparently if u get tuna the night before, you don't get tuna the day of.    :smt011

In my day to day life, I'm not superstitious, but while fishing I'm 100% superstitious. Especially when it comes to the ocean. In the ocean, i never have a banana aboard a vessel, and I don't have anything to do with turtles while I'm out there. I don't mess with sea birds either. For me, those are things I will follow on the ocean religiously.
Now as far a fresh water, I've got this weaved lifeguard hat that if I wear it, I get skunked. Not a coincidence, that's the truth, I can't catch a fish with that hat on. That hat got me skunked at the Delta, Quarry (twice) and Berry before I figured it out.

Nope.  I catch fish with banana on board and while eating banana.  Banana helps me with the leg cramp problems I used to have.

Good fishing seem to happen when something is forgotten or broken.  Got my fist butt when my ff crapped out within 60 seconds of the first wave over my bow after launching at LK.

Does helping an albatross count?  On one patrol while I was still in the USCG we had an albatross riding our bow wind.  It slid too far back on one crossing and landed on the bow.  Nobody would approach it (wing span over 6 ft) so I slowly walked up behind it and folded its' wings so that I could lift it onto the bow rail (damn thing was hardly any weight), put it on the rail and slowly backed away.  It took several seconds to orientate itself and then took off.  It didn't even try to peck at me when I was handling it.

Nope,a waste of time. However when on the ocean I believe that the ocean is the Higher Power and that I had better pay attention.  :smt004

Im really not very superstitious when it comes to fishing.. I did years ago have a "lucky shirt" that said spawn till you die on it..    :smt003

One of the partners in my first ocean boat was completely superstitious tho..   banannas, womerns...  everything.   His worst tho, was " WTF!... did you buy a bunch of new tackle??   We may as well not even go out.. you can never catch anything with new tackle!"     :smt044  I think he just was too cheap to buy new stuff so he figured he would eventually just use mine.

Not really superstitious but,,,,,,,I definitely believe in luck when fishing, especially beginners luck,,,,,,3 guys in a boat, me, my cousin, and a friend, same bait, same setup, same water, same everything, one guy gets 3 keeper sturgeon, the other 2 get none. Stuff like that happens all the time.

Now Karma is a different thing, I don't eat shark anymore.......

My favorite shirt!   Ray Troll. I have the old one and a newer one, and a hoodie.

But, I learned I would never catch fish when wearing it, so.....I don't wear it fishing.

This one is bang on dead true, no doubt.  If the bite is slow, leave your rig in the water, stop to take a piss or eat a sandwich and you will get hooked up.  It's one of those indisputable laws of the universe, right up there with f = ma.

Since I eat lots of snacks while fishing, this "fact" seems to hold true for me too  :smt005
