hey guys, i was pointed by another forum to come here, but i am looking into getting into some kayak fishing (capitola area)  and I was wondering if you guys can give me a few pointers.

I am 6'1 210 and was wondering what kind of kayak i should be looking at?  I would prefer a used kayak in the 500-800 range depends what it comes with.

Been looking at the Malibu Kayaks Stealth 12', is that a good fit?

any help or pointers are appreciated.

Welcome aboard norcalkat, my advice would be test paddle as many kayaks as you can, you will find the one that fits you the best. I just saw a flyer from sunrise mountain in livermore. On Sundays at lake Del Valle  from 9am to 12 for 25.00 you can paddle as many kayaks as you wont to, it would be a good opportunity to see what you might like. I my self paddle a Trident13 and pedal a Hobie revo good luck on your search :smt006.

Great idea! I bet you could test paddle 10 different kayaks, as the bros in NCKA are very cool.  AND you get a chance to win one!

I don't see many used Malibu Stealths sold locally. They are cool looking yaks for sure. The main feature is that built-in livewell. IMO that's the reason to buy a stealth...if you plan to use livebait OFTEN, like all the time. Otherwise, I'd recommend getting a different yak and rigging up a homemade bait bucket/livewell that you can put behind you in the tank. Most guys who fish that area have been using bait tubes w/success (just a pvc tube w/holes drilled in it and caps on the end...it's like a Pez dispenser of bait lol!)
Also do a search on the site for Malibu 12 info. I think they may have had some issues in the past with leaky hatches.

thats why i asked if thats a good kayak to get, i liked the livewell feature but its not necessary.  I been searching here and its looks like the Ok T13 kayak is a favorite around here, hopefully sunday i can get out to del valle and see which one i like best.

i also found a used prowler in socal that came pretty loaded are those any good?
