Would a two piece cable work? When we had to temporarily store the rental yaks at UCSF outside on a trailer one of the guys built cable locks for them all.
He used coated steel cable with swaged loops on each end. One end of each piece had a loop big enough to fit over the bow/stern of the yak, with the other end of the cable swaged into a small loop for the lock. put the big loops over each end of the board and lock the cables together under the roof rack.

You'd just have to be sure the cable is short enough and the loops just the right size so that when the two cable are locked together neither end can be slid off of the board/yak. It still would be just a deterrent, unless you used big fat cable.

I think the stuff to build these can be picked up at a home depot or whatnot.

I actually have that system... bought it at MBK.. you loop both ends then locks in the middle, making sure you take out the slack...

yeah, that's pretty much it. Without a hole through the board seems like the only other way would be with some type of clamping mount, like the way they transport snowboards and skis. I doubt anything like that (yakima or thule) would be cheap tho.

Dude, just put "PROPERTY OF DA MOOCH" on it in big letters. pretty much everyone on the west coast knows who you are by now right? No one will snatch it knowing you possess the ability to unleash the full wrath of NCKA on them. :smt002 sorry, the wise ass thing got me thinking....

You can use a thin cable lock through the leash plug! That along with your normal straps, most folks won't want to mess with that. :smt002 Icing on the cake would be a couple of badass stickers all over the car.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I'm leaning towards this one but I HATE having to use keys coz you can always loose 'em or forget 'em...I prefer the combination locking mechanisms.
