Hit SWS south along with Shellback, Bloodbath and his buddy and a few other non NCKA members.  They dont know what they are missing out on but im working on it.  But lets back up for a second to a day that i like to call 6/8/2011.  Now i have been eyeing this Ab Biller gun for quite some time now.  I go into the dive shop at least once a week to shoot the sh!t and look at this gun, and other things that I want.  So i finally have the cabbage and its christmas time in june.  I go into the shop and I am heartbroken to find out that the gun I have been eyeing for a few months now is actually 45.00$ more than what I thought.  I was looking at the wrong tag.  The store owner could see the disappointment in my face, like a kid who has just found out there is no santa claus.  So he hooks me up and trims a little off the top of the price so i can afford it and now Im back at a 10.
So we get all geared up and hit the water.  Like shellback said the kelp around the island is almost comical.  It is so thick and relentless and frustrating.  So I decided to move under neath the pink house where there are some gaps in the kelp beds and hit pay dirt.  As i was getting my stuff set up I dropped my gun.(Not a technique I just dropped it) :smt002  I secured my equipment and headed down to get the gun I found a few free floating blues and kelpies.  I called bloodbath over and it was may lay time.  I quickly filled the stringer to 9 rockfish and one large perch.   At this point Im thinking I really want a nice Cabbie, as I have none in my possession at this point.  I take a dive down in about 30 FOW and getting a tan is a hog cabbie.  Naturally I blast him and he explodes off the rock like a tornado of fins and other fish like body parts.  As I go to stick him with my knife,  he throws in a couple of head shakes and you guessed it.  The F ing knife slips out of my hand and in to the abyss.  Secure the fish and go look for the knife.  And im pissed.  I told the Cabbie if i hadnt already killed him that I would kill him for making me drop my knife.  First dive looking for the knife and pulled my first legal 22 inch ling.  At this point i have forgotten about my lost gear.  What Knife???? The ocean taketh and the ocean giveth back.  I dont have pictures of the ling as I wanted some ling cheek sashimi and filleted him right on the beach.  Great day and great way to break in the new piece maker.

There's nothing quite like a successful maiden voyage for a new piece of fish gathering equipment!

You'll probably find some other divers' knife the next trip out!

SWEET CATCH!!!!  We were going to paddle over to you, but we were exhausted... and the fact that we had to carry two limits of rockfish towing behind us, through all that damn kelp...ZZzZZZZZ pain staking... we had to break 3-4 times before we could finish paddling through... LOL

Nicely done dude....stoked for you AND your new gun!

I'll keep my eyes open for your knife...I lost a dive light in that area once and bloodbath found it when we were back there like a month later...still works so I let him keep it!

 :smt004

Looking forward to diving with you again soon!

Sincerely,

Jim

Gotta love a garage sale when you get paid back with those beautiful Fish. Can't wait to get back in the area to SWS...
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

That AB Biller gun is a good one that you will really enjoy for a long time. Both my sons have been using that exact gun for 15 years or so, and have shot a ton of fish with it. Good choice.
