fish finder question:
got a eagle cuda 350 and its worked great...when it works.  the last time i used it was about 3.5 months ago down in redondo beach and i got hit by a couple good sized waves launching, but there wasn't enough water in the hull to get the battery wet, and the ff was in a ziplock in my tacklebox so t stayed dry.  it is dry mounted in the hull of my P13 with the battery suspended in the bow to avoid getting wet.  when i went to go use it at a local lake last month there was no power going to the unit.  the battery was fully charged so i don't think that could be the problem. the only thing that i could think of is the connection from the battery cord to the FF corroded in which case i would have to peel the transducer off the bottom of the hull and do the mounting process all over again.

is there any chance that the salt water has affected, or damaged the connection from the battery to the ff unit?

any suggestions???

before i go to the extremes i wanted to see what suggestions you all might have.

Should be aninline fuse.  Check that 1st.

then, runa couple test wires from the battery to the FF see if that works.  if so, then the wire is probably compromised.

Why do you ahve to mess with the trasducer.  Aren't there separate wires for power and for sonarinput?

It's probably simpler than you think.  Good luck!

Yup, definitely.  Check the connections at both ends.  I've had to strip back the battery side connections a couple times after they became so bad that I wasn't getting enough voltage at the other end.

most of the time it is not the transducer. The times where my FF doesn't turn on is 1) because of the battery, you should recheck it or 2) the wires connecting the batter is bad. Those two will usually fix the problem.

I've accidently hooked up the battery backwards (+ to -) and it wouldn't turn on.  Like the others said check fuse or corroded connections.

When in doubt, do more than a quick visual check.  strip the battery connection back and redo it.  If you still see and corrosion (i.e. you don't see clean copper), strip farther back.  Often times saltwater (and corrosion) will "wick" back up the wire.  2-3" max should do it.

Yes maintenance is key.  I use corrosion X (the thick stuff).  It's a spray, and it's dialectric.  Quick re-spray after every go-out.  Then, every month or so I clean off the terminals with wd40, dry them, and hit ist with a new coat of Crrosion X.

If you wanna use grease, try the "bulb grease" from Osupply.  Costa about 25% as the stuff called dialectric grease, and works the same.

Marine Electronics stores have it.  You could always google it, and get a distributor list from the manufacterer.

Stuff is really handy!

Thanks Allen...

Just got done cutting out old wires...everything from bat to FF...  found out after I did it all just an itty bitty bit of corrosion in the female and on male end that plugs into FF needed to be honed out, took a acetylene torch cleaner to get down inside....Game On...

PS  the 3 amp fuse between the bat/FF was full on corroded  :smt009 NEW one installed and its all working fine.........   thanks for Intel.... cya OTW!!!

Checked all connections...battery fully charged.

Stripped battery wires and got connector terminals for the battery but still a no go.

Upon further inspection could this be the culprit?

Looks like one of the metal connections within the housing is missing. Time to buy a new one?

May not need the extra pin.  May have been empty.  Option that is not on your unit?  I use a 12V Dewalt battery inside a sealed plastic box.  Walmart purchase.  Put stainless screws through the side of box to prevent water on battery.  Since I had the batts from an older drill, used them and they work great.  Just toss them in the dewalt charger and go for it.  2 batteries fit in tht box, so can keep a spare in there.  I post pic later.
