Lots of sun, fishermen, boats and calm water but no trout or bass love.  Big "Howdy" to David on the white Fish N Dive and his friend on the yellow OK.  I hope you guys will join the NCKA group and share your kayak fishing insights.

The ranger said that 500 lbs of trout was stocked last Thursday and that they were getting reports of fish being caught.  However, I asked all the boats I went by and talked to all the bank fishermen...everyone had nada.  I was slowly trolling a night crawler behind a sepps flasher all around the lake off the bottom in about 20 to 25 feet of water just off the shore.  Most of the bank fishermen were using power bait and/or a worm/marshmellow fished on the bottom with a sliding sinker.  The trollers were dragging kastmasters.

For a small lake it's DEEP...I was monitoring 25 to 40 feet just off the bank on all shores except by the swim beach.  It's 50 feet in many spots in the middle of the lake.  The surface temp was 58 F when I launched at 10:00 and 60 F when I left the water at 1:30.

Just in case you want to bring exact change the cost is $12 which includes park admission, fishing permit and launch fee.  Parking is very convenient and right next to the boat ramp.  However, it's actually easier to launch from the shore next to the boat launch as long as no one is fishing in that spot.

Even though fishing was slow I would go there again but I would stop in select spots and use power bait to drift over the piles of underwater brush that I detected on my FF.

Tight lines,

Gary (Sandman)

THanks for the report Gary - if the trout fishing is slow on the main lake, try the back ponds for bass/ bluegill fishing! IF you fish with a worm on a slip float, you cannot go wrong :smt023

Gary,  thanks for the tip on NCKA.  I had no luck Sunday either....usually go to Del Valle but I have seen dozens of bass caught at Shadow Cliffs on a good day....David
