Sorry, can't just 'let it be.'  I feel you're flaming someone unfairly, and these are my homies.

Sorry you didn't catch a halibut, neither did I. (I mostly used a live kingfish, though the frozen squid didn't get me a bite either.

So, parking has gone up to $10.00 and launch fees are only 6, including parking? Sounds like a no-brainer. Hard way to learn, though, I agree.

Bayside can sell parking passes, but only the harbor office can sell launch passes.  Bayside is getting shipments of fresh squid 2 or 3 times a week.  Here is his report from Monday:

"I fished for Halibut today in the afternoon with fresh dead Squid today and ended up with 6 Halibut. The fish were caught in 45-65 feet of water in front of the harbor. The Halibut have been coming on the bite in the afternoon when the wind blows."

Notice he caught his fish in the afternoon, long after the wind came up?  That may be part of the reason you didn't "hear" of any other fish caught in the morning?  You are essentially calling Todd Fraser a liar (for profit) and using your own  mistatements to back your claim.

I also don't think it's really fair to put quote marks around your interpretation.

"Come to SC and get your limits of Halibut!"   When and where did Todd say that?

or,

"BTW: you can get it if you buy my Fresh Squid for $20."

Again, show me the quote.

Basically you are complaining about Todd giving a false hype with statements he never made?

Again, the guy is in business, and his website exists to advertise his business.  The FACT that he includes consistent daily fishing reports is a benefit to us, I think.
Attempting to characterize his business in a negative manner, publicly on this forum, is inappropriate at best.

(he probably uses old post/pictures)

Nope, those pictures are from this weekend and the beginningof the week.

I think Sean may have said it best, including

"You can't write off any info/tips/hints you get there, but you just have to distill it and to get the nuggets of real info."

Respectfully,

Allen

Two sides to every story, thanks for posting Allen.  The only part of the story that really bugged me was the discrepancy in launch fees, if the deal is that the harbor has two passes, one for parking and one for launching, and bayside is only selling parking passes then its really just a miscommunication......buy a launch pass with the harbor or use the free launch and park on the street.

All the other stuff......I can't think of one operation that doesn't charge higher premiums for convenience, don't want to pay for it then buy elsewhere prior ti hitting the harbor.

I agree w/ Art. I edited my initial post because after reading it & knowing the whole story it did not seem fair. The parking thing is more of a port district issue it seems, and should be clearer to harbor day users.

I'll certainly continue to shop @ BaySide when I want & need to. I just don't count on them being open at o-dark-thirty anymore.
I usually have a parking pass already so I'm out of it on the whole day pass thing, plus I rarely park on that side of the harbor anyway.

Q:  Does Bayside Marine = "BS" Marine?

Its a crackup to read statements like "fish are averaging between 8 and 20 pounds".  That's a range, not an average LOL. Also, it just ain't right to describe halibut scores "ranging from 0-3 fish a boat" as "decent".  Ask the boat(s) that got bageled if fishing was decent, sure to find disagreement.

Anyway, the reports on the website are not advertisements.  Even if completely false, the reports aren't actionable falsehood.  I stopped viewing the website awhile back, but I will patronize the store on occasion, most of all for their convenience.  Bayside has  good deals sometimes, like a 2 for 1 megabait clearance (a while back).

For whatever faults it may have, Bayside provides a unique and very convenient service to those who seek it out.

Often times, in various fishing mags. and on the web, you'll run into the old saying, " 90% of the fish are caught by 10% of the fisherman". In my experience I've found that to be true.  Take, "that darn Glen", of Capitola Bait and boat" fame , for instance.
Todd is a local and his knowledge of fishing goes back to Great Grand Daddies passed down tips.

Do a search for Halibut honey holes.

I like reading the Bayside report everyday and I get good info at the shop from time to time. I buy things there
often enough because I appreciate that service.

I have lived in Santa Cruz for  over forty years and there are all kinds of people here.  There have been a number of hold ups at knife point recently, and there are world renown astronomers  and  marine biologists at UCSC, and  there is  a lot of everything in between.   Generalizations about places  are easy to make and I guess it's human nature to do so, but  the whole world is full of shady people at all levels of society . I don't think Todd is one them.

Hey, at least you weren't told to go f*** off by some guy eating a bag of cheetos and licking his grimy fingers.  And yes that actually happened to me at a popular Santa Cruz vendor of maritime goods and services when I attempted to apply that vendor's 10% coupon published in the Fishsniffer   :smt005

Dude probably knew L.A didn't need to buy a 10-dollar parking permit. But he still sold it to him and took his money. Did you pay cash? LOL they only accept cash for permits.... :smt044   = Lesson learned and it only cost ~4 bucks.
