Weather man kinda hit the forecast today in the Bay; winds never died down from Sunday. Wind waves kept a few of us at bay; while the true newbies were determined to stick it out.  After venturing out just beyond the meager protection of the rock wall, we decide to soak some shiners inside for a while before calling it quits.

Thank Jed for the empanadas and picking up the shiners! I'll grab them next time!

Hopefully the winds will die down before the ARW event!!

Glenn,
Thanks for the scouting report.  Is summer ever going to arrive?  Let's hope for calm conditions for the ARW event.  Good weather and good fishing shouldn't be too much to ask for, at least occasionally.

Yeah bro, I started heading back when the waves kept going over the yak and hitting me in the face.  :smt011 I needed today's fishing after that great trip we
all had at Shelter Cove. The good news is that today's skunk will yield a big
halibut comes the tourney in a couple of weeks. :smt003 I hope the guys that
stayed behind caught some fish.

There was some members I met this morning for the first time. Steve and Randy
whom I met at Mike's Bait shop who followed me to ARW. Glen was there already
setting up along with Martin and Keith(zippy). Shortly after came Ray(raydon). On
our way out I met Jim(who's the owner of the Raptor). After deciding to head back
in, Chuck was on his way out along with Keith(gbyak) I think and Tim or is it Jim(
rusty). Man so sorry to butchers peoples names. So many to remember all in one
day. :smt005 :smt005 Hope to see all of you on the water again soon. Camera lost juice so I couldn't take any pictures. SORRY!

Shoot I was hoping it would be better....But I was worried that the wind from yesterday would keep up...Guess it did.

Brutul. Both the conditions and jedmo's botched names! Today was work, no doubt about that. Drifted from the launch to crab cove with some hand-me-down shiners. Thanks, Rick! Even got desperate enough to try just inside the marina walls. Why? Why not? I sure as hell don't know for certain where the butts be, or not be. Okay, so maybe I was just enjoying the respite from the battering wind waves. Anyway, made it back to the launch around noon and called it a day. No fish. No bites. No dry shorts.

Nice meeting and chatting with some of the fellas at the ramp. We'll get 'em in better weather. Cheers!

Good attempt guys.  Had I not set the alarm at 6:00pm instead of 6:00am I would have been there with you.  The wind will eventually die and ARW will redeem it's reputation as a "hot butt" spot.

Sounds like sucky conditions, sure hope you've earned your good fishing karma for the Yakhopper event. We  encountered wind, rain and hail visiting our son in Chico this weekend. Lots of in-climate weather lately. Summer where are you?

I was hoping for good conditions and good fishing for the guys that showed up this Memorial Day, but that was not to be.  At times it looked like the angry ocean out there with some really big wind waves.  I don't blame the guys for coming in early.

I got there late around 9am and went out on the AI and met up with Nudling who had been out there all morning on his.  He had a keeper striper on the clip, and hopefully, he'll have more to report.  Nudling was still out there when I came in around 1pm.  No fish for me again.  My mojo savings bank is growing. :smt003

Thanks for the report guys!  Just glad nobody got hurt in that rough weather.  How did the AI's fly in those high winds?  Did you guys even dared to open up the sail?

Nudling was launching at 5:30  when I showed up...   With sail up,   in less than 5 minutes  he was  over the horizon.

Crazy fast !   Impressive sailing crafts.       With  the incoming tide and wind blowing all the same direction it was a fast drift along the wall.

It was great to see so many NCKA'ers show up.

The wind and waves were pretty brutal. I had to keep turning into the waves to keep from being hit broadside. Kurt (gelbyak) had a few waves go over his kayak. Eventually we realized the futility of trying to fish at the flag pole, and hid behind the sea wall, next to the marina entrance. Fished shiners until noon, for no bites.

I was bummed I couldn't find a sitter in time, but it looks like I didn't miss much!  :smt003

Thanks for the reports, fellas.

It was minus tide when I launched and this sweet looking boat pulls up.  I did my part and took depth surveys 10 then 20 feet out - I hope he didn't have to wait too long.  He mentioned that I was always welcome on his boat and I wouldn't have to do all that work to launch. lol - I'm moving towards I'd rather yak than be on a boat unless it's my own boat or not yak-friendly.  He was probably talking out of his arse anyway and I should have packed up and hopped aboard just to see his reaction.  :smt003

I sailed out to my location and started trolling at 3-4mph - unassisted!  I had to turn my yak perpendicular to the drift in order to get to a decent trolling speed.  It was surprising to see sheep so early in the morning but the WX report on the radio mentioned that it would subside a little mid-morning.  I farmed my first bite 20 minutes in and it bit the chovie in 2. I've missed a few of these similar looking bites recently while trolling, so I'm going to play it like live bait the next time and hope for a different result.

So it's 8AM and I'm in the sturgeon fishing grounds thinking to myself - damn, another epic fail.  I decided to head towards ARW just in case it gets worse and that's when I ran into Chuck.  The conditions in the pic was from ~10AM and that's when it was fish-able compared to earlier in the morning.

I stayed until 3:30 and decided to pack it in and spend some time w/the family. Although it was tempting to stay a little longer, especially since it was FAC compared to what we were fishing in earlier (beer/saltwater goggles I guess). No butts were slapped today, but it's always good to be on the water.  I took home schoolie striper that I named Candy and she's going to be beer battered tonight.

Rey, 1/2 sail open when conditions were really bad and full when it was semi-bad.
