Wow, I was in the grocery biz for years and saw a lot of fruits and veggies but,I've never heard of these before. Have to give 'em a try! I was in Hawaii and this guy was preaching about how "Braggs organic apple cider vinegar" saved him from acid reflux, heartburn, the worst you could imagine!
He said to use 2tbls.cider mixed in 8 oz water ,3 times a day for 30 days and you will never have heartburn again. Worth a try if you suffer and take over the counter crap anyway, and its cheap !
 I prefer mango,banana,orange,strawberry,blueberry with a little crushed ice,after the vinegar  :smt007

You guys are way too healthy. Mine is a protien shake for after the workout. Some 2%, raw spinach, asparagus, pecans or walnuts, 2 egg whites, 2 whole eggs, frozen; black or blue berries, mango, pineapple, strawberry and banana. It will get me to lunch.

I really need to try this out. My dad bought a really expensive juicer when he was on a spending craze and has only used it once. I will have to see if I can find it.

Im hopeful for a juicer for xmas, but I've been using a blender and a paint strainer bag from home depot to squeeze out the pulp. It works great. pretty much just blending up what ever fruits and veggies are in the fridge.

Isn't the pulp the healthy part?

For those of you who are ready for a life style change, watch this documentary about juicing.

Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead. Netflix has it.

Thanks to Lino / Tailwalk for recommending it  :smt045

I'd been wanting a juicer for a while now...not so much becuase I'm looking for a change in life style but because my son always has me buy a lot of fruit and then never eats it.  I figured it would help to keep some of it from going to waste.

So over the weekend I bought the Jack Lalanne juicer from Costco...and then I ran to Safeway to buy fruits and veggies to push through that bad boy.

After unpacking it and then quickly cleaning it I plugged it in and started juicing.  Really liked it when I pushed through the apples, and the cucumbers, and the strawberries....but then I got to the banana and realized that it really is a juicer and bananas aren't all that juicy... the entire banana got pushed through to the waste bucket and didn't contribute to the juice.  Hmmmm, that wasn't exactly what I was hoping for.  Needless to say you can't add ice to your juices and expect this juicer to mix it all up for you.

Next it came time to clearn up my mess.  The first thing I noticed is that quite a bit of the fruit is wasted.  The second thing I noticed was that cleaning that thing is a bit of a chore...it comes with a wrench and a brush and you have to take things apart.  Not a whole lot of work but more than I had anticipated.

One other minor issue was that the spout where the juice comes out from is a bit low.  You either have to hold your cup in an awkward position or use a really short cup.

Not satisfied with my purchase I went over to Bed Bath and Beyond.  There I found the Ninja Blender (BL660).  It's obviously a completely different approach to juicing compared to the Jack Juicer.  This is more of a blender on super crack. It's got a long pole with knives running through the middle of the pitcher (regular blenders usually only have a single set of knives at the bottom).

I unpacked it and washed it out.  Then cut up a bit of fruit to put into it.  Unlike the Jack Juicer, you actually have to cut anything off of the fuit that you don't want to be in the juice...so it's a little more up front work.

I threw in some oranges, stawberries, cucumbers, some orange juice, and a few other things including a banana and then began to blend.  One of the strawberries stuck to the side of the pitcher so I had to stop the blender and grab a fork to pull it away.  Only a couple of seconds of blending and the fruit was nicely blended.  I then added a cup full of ice and blended again for a couple of seconds.  And juist like that I had a delicious fruit drink.

The next task was to clean up my mess.  I pulled out the totem pole of knives from the pitcher and then put the cap, the knives, and the pitcher into the dishwasher.... job done, no tools required.

Overall I think I like the ninja a lot more so I'll be taking back the Jack Juicer... the Ninja just seems a lot more versatile and will probably get a lot more use.

The Jack Lalanne spout is too short. I have to put everything on a towel to sop up any accidental spills. When juicing lime, I often have to stop and remove skin chunks that don't get ground up and get stuck between the blade and the machine.

I have a lime tree; if anybody wants any for making ceviche, let me know.

The g/f drinks smoothies every day.  They are pretty tasty, despite looking like algae, (she puts in kale, beets, blueberries, etc...  you can imagine).

I'm thinking of getting her a Blendtec for her bday.  Those things are pretty badass, industrial strength, (they can boil stuff from the heat of the blade friction)!

The whole point of a juicer is to extract everything good from your fruit and leave everything else behind.

The "wasted fruit" that's left behind is just worthless fiber.

A centrifugal-style juicer uses the power of centrifugal force to extract the juice from the vegetables. The strainer inside the juicer spins at 3,000 to 7,000 rpm and uses flat cutting blades to separate the juice from the fiber. Vegetables are fed down into the juicer and the juice is filtered through tiny holes in the strainer basket on one end, and the pulp is sent out the back into a container.
