I have a Uniden Aquarius 250 that I'm very happy with. It does *not* float though. I have a lanyard run through mine.

There has been a lot of discussion of hand held radios here, try a search on VHF.

Definately enough info on here for a couple hours of straight reading..  :smt003   I would get something from Standard Horizon, like this

http://www.cabelas.com/sonar-accessories-standard-horizon-hx290-floating-handheld-vhf-radio.shtml?type=product&WT.tsrc=CSE&WT.mc_id=GoogleBaseUSA&WT.z_mc_id1=1149042&rid=40&mr:trackingCode=36525D6E-B613-E011-8E88-001B21631C34&mr:referralID=NA

or the one I have

http://www.tuppens.com/webstore.html?info=2416    (no idea about this store, it was just the top one when Igoogled it.. )

Ive had it now for a couple years and its been bombproof so far.      I went cheaper with my first standard horizon.. was a great radio but it also had the brick syndrome.

Use the search box, this is a frequent and regular topic here.

I have been using Standard Horizon models for over 15 years and have never had a problem. Get one that floats and waterproof.

I felt like floating models would be the ultimate in VHF's until I dropped mine overboard with a tiny, little, carabeaner on it, and it sank out of reach.   I now prefer to have it leashed to my PFD, within reach of my pocket to secure it in.

Adding a "Key float" to a floating radio thats just about nuetral bouyant, will help it stay visable.  Or strapping to to PFD helps there also.

There many opinions on this. Mine is get the smallest Standard Horizon you can find and always have it attached to your pfd.
