My family and I are headed up to Oregon to visit my mom. If the weather cooperates I'm lanning on stopping by to pick up some R/F to feast with the rest of the family. We aren't planning on staying the night, gonna head for Eagle Point, OR, right after. I'll make final decision on thurs/fri, hoping the weather holds. Anybody with advice on; getting a reliable weather report, secret fishing spots(please only the super secret ones), and anything else one might think of. We'll be in a red two seater; my son and I. We will be in Oregon for a couple days and then going visit mother in-law at Eagle Lake for the last few days of our week off. Company WELCOME!!!

That's a pretty good forecast for early in the morning at least.  A 62 pound 'but was reported caught very near the Cove today (Humboldt Tuna Club report).  I say go ahead on it!

Look at GoogleEarth or a nautical chart of the area.  You launch and pass the moorings - STAY TO THE EAST OF PILOT ROCK - this is a wash rock about 10' in diameter just past and to the west of the moorings.  Head directly toward the green bell buoy which is about 1 mile almost directly south of the launch.  From about half way out to the bell traveling in an arc around the lighthouse point and to in front of the hotels about halfway between the hotels and the red whistle buoy you will find all the fishing opportunities you need.  Don't go in too close to the reef off the lighthouse and hotels, and beware if you go out to the whistle buoy because the wind can come up and make getting back in challenging.  If you don't want to travel that arc from halfway to the bell around the corner then just fish the 30-40' pinnacles within 200-300 yards of the bell.  I've caught plenty of salmon, rockfish and lings right in there.  Just south of the bell it drops to 90' pretty quickly, and there have been some early season shallow Pacific Halibut caught in there recently!

Best of luck.   :smt001

Be ready to arrive, get ready, get OTW, get some fishing in, and get along with the rest of your trip - the opportunities at the Cove can dissolve rapidly.  Fair warning - you could arrive to see something you'd never want to fish in, or you could arrive to see great conditions for longer than expected.  Either way, good luck - I'm excited for you!   :smt001

I won't be giving a report from the cove. I got 1 exit from home and my yak was moving around too much. Pulled over and tightened everything up. 1 more exit still too much shaking for my comfort; 11 hours of driving. I have a bike rack in my tow hitch, so my yak was at an angle with "J" hooks and it just wasn't as secure as it seemed in my driveway. Turned around and unloaded yak then just took I5 all the way straight to Oregon. Hope to be able to give some kind of report from here; small mouth or salmon.
Many thanks to Loletseric, for all the advice!!
