Shasta camping trip
Our plan “A” was to start at Bridgebay and paddle/pedal up the Sacramento arm and back taking four day to do it, camping and fishing as we went two day up, two days back. But the weather was not sounding too good :smt011 so we decided to go with plan “B”, start at Birdgebay and paddle/pedal to Ski Island and just fish that area. Well camping was great no body around we had pretty much the Island to our self’s, as for the fishing not so good it was windy Friday and Saturday but we managed a few trout each and then the rain started Sunday am, my buddies tent and gear got pretty wet so we decided to cut the trip short and head on home, the weather is so hard to predicted when planning a trip.  This was a good test trip for my new Hobie I wanted to see how she would handle fully loaded with camping gear, happy to say she did not miss a lick, I love this yak. All in all we had a great time but how could you not, being on the water and with Mother Nature. Next year we might try the McCloud arm or the Pit River arm. Pic below last one we hit a little rain on the way back :smt007.

Next time go for the Pit River Arm.  You can camp on your own private island-directly across from ramp.  Be sure to paddle up to the waterfall!  It is worth the hike back in---take water.  I need to do Shasta again soon!---too many fond rememberances.-----Jeff

Yikes, that was a nasty day to be on the water.  Nice job sticking it out, the fish gods will remember that.

Pat, the island is boat in only.  But with the water so high it may be underwater!  The waterfall is quite a ways up the arm.  Might be too far for a one day paddle.  Fishing always seemed better onthe Pitt--crickets were usually bait of choice.-Jeff
