Got off work around 11:30am and headed straight to Mike's bait shop to pickup some live shiners. Arrived at the Encinal boat ramp around 12:15pm and setup the kayak. On the water at 1:00pm and paddled out in about 23' h2o by the flag pole at ballena bay. Take down around 2:30pm brought her next to the boat and it was a beauty, major problem I forgot to bring the net and all I have was the gaff. The stinger hook just barely hanging by the lip. Gaff the beast and she was all mad and took off for another run. Brought her up close to the boat for the 2nd time and I told myself this is your last chance to nail her, "Wrong" the hook pop out "Bummer". Rig up again and started trolling again, around 4:15pm another hookup and this time I stuck the son of a B$$$$. She was about 29" long. I saw Dave (Relentless) out there in the same area and it was nice talking to you. The halis are out there it's that you have to work hard for it. Off the water around 6:15pm Here are some pics. There will be a video later on, I'm still trying to figure out the editing part.

Nice that must have been you I saw out there. I was in the blue Scrambler XT. Drifted live shiners all around the flagpole area, and ended up catching about a 14" flatty... 18" at the flats wednesday, 14" at ARW Thursday... I'm due.

AlexB, yes that was me.  I was calling out on 69 for NCKA but I guess you didn't have your radio with you.  I was all bummed out when I lost that first fish.  Lesson learn, always bring a net.  Nice chatting with you out there.

I'm actually still in the market for a radio. I'll probably pick one up next week. I was looking at one of the floating handhelds at West Marine that looked pretty nice.

Got a pretty busy weekend, but might be able to squeeze a trip in on Sunday? We shall see.

Well done IY! I put in an hour over a late lunch break for nada. Good to know they are there even with the minus tides.
Alex, imo, go for smaller over floating. You want it attached to your pfd so if you get separated from your boat it's on you. Seems like Standard Horizon outlast Uniden..

Good point about the small size. The floating ones are bulky. My PFD doesn't jive very well with my high back seat, so it sometimes ends up sitting behind my seat in calmer conditions... I probably should figure out a way to make it more comfortable.
