What? No letter from DMV telling you that it is time for RENEWAL?  they always send me a letter when they want some $$ from me.
i heard on the news that CHP knows about this problem and is cutting slack to those in wait.

my trick with the dmv is to come 5 to 10 minutes before they close. they work really fast when  they wanna go home. no appointments needed. youll be outta there in 30-45 minutes tops. going first in the morning doesnt work so well, as they still gotta have their morning coffee, they work really slow in the morning.

I'm sure they did, but I either missed it or it got lost in the shuffle during my move.

My cousin works at DMV so my last license renewal and pic went smooth but other than the family hook up I've never been in and out under two hours.

Last week I got pulled over by a CHP for expired tags. I forgot to put the sticker on but had it in the glove box. The officer was cool about everything and even commented on the star in my windshield being in a crappy spot.

When I moved from Vallejo to Idaho I went into the DMV with the usual sense of "here we go" that I normally felt in California. I had to get a new license and register my truck. Thirty minutes later I had taken the test, had my picture taken, and they handed me my license, which they printed on a machine right there behind their desk. Then 20 minutes after that they had me registered with special plates on order. The lady behind the counter even came out to my truck with me in the rain to get the VIN since I had forgotten to write it down before I came in.

The unbelievably nice and efficient service I received in Idaho just reinforced the negative view I have for how worthless the DMV system is in California.

Look online on the DMV website. dmv.ca.gov
They have the wait times posted for their offices.

Even though I live in West Sacramento and there is a branch close by in Sacramento, It is worth it to drive to Davis and take care of things there.

It has never been busy as long as I've been going there.

Thank you, you bike riding, dirty footed hippies!
