Please excuse me while I vent.

So back in Sept last year, the lady at my credit union pointed out my license had expired.  They aren't supposed to allow transactions unless you have a valid ID, but they know me so no big deal...  I make an appt at the DMV for a renewal.

Earliest appt. available was in November.  I show up early, feeling smug knowing I have an appointment!  Should be a snap!  Only I walk around noting that the "Appt. Only" window is no longer where it once was.  I ask a lady working there and she tells me I have to stand in line with everyone else, despite my appt, and points vaguely towards the longest line.  So I go stand in line, but about 20 minutes later I realise the long line is really TWO lines and of course I'm in the wrong one.  They were nowhere near clearly marked.  So finally I get in the right line and it's my turn, and the lady tells me to take a number.  wtf?  It's now 10:15 and my appointment was for 9:30.  Starting to get pissed.  10 minutes go by and they call my number, not bad, things are looking up.

So I pay my money, and ask the nice lady, "Don't I have to take a new picture?  The old one is from 10 years ago..."  but before I can finish she cut me off with a condencending tone, stating a new pic won't be required.  Supposedly my new license will arrive in 8-10 weeks.

Six months go by.  No license.  I call to inquire.  Another nice lady tells me they "haven't processed it yet".  Meanwhile all this time I'm stressing about getting pulled over, or not being allowed into one of the drinking establishments my band plays because my license has been expired for over six months now, and I have to go to one specific bank location because they know me there!  So they send me a replacent temporary license, (which is not valid as an ID).  Ok.

Then Friday, I get a letter from the DMV.  Yay, my license is here finally!  Nope.  It's a letter that says:

"We must ask for your cooperation in returning to one of our offices for a new photograph before we can process or reissue your California driver license or id card.

Please telephone your local DMV office for an appointment so that we can minimize any inconvenience".

I so feel your rant.

I read an article about 3 months before my license expired about how the DMV had an enormous backlog of licenses and it was taking an average of 2-3 months to get the new ones out (apparently there were so many security devices on the new cards it was holding up production).
I made an appointment 1.5 months before my birthday and also arrived early with the same smugness.....until I had to wait in the same line as all the people who didn't have an appointment.
W.T.F. I ask myself.
I got to see someone an hour after my appointment time. I guess I'm lucky that they did take my photo, and it only took me 2 months to get a new license in the mail.

Forgot to mention a lady at the gas station refused to sell me a pack of smokes.  My bald head should be proof enough that I'm over 18.  wtf, California???

Good for her. That stuff will kill ya!
At least DMV didn't say it was lost in the mail.
If it makes ya feel any better I dropped an oily cheese filled olive from Archers Butchers in my lap because I was laughing at your expense post.  :smt044

Yes, Tote, that makes me feel better for some reason.  Flash back!

Popped home for lunch and there was a duplicate letter, same as I posted.  They torture/mock me in duplicate!

Okay, I'll jump on the rantwagon...

Wanted a license to ride a scooter around, being the proud new owner of a 1984 Honda Elite CH125, in red, of course, with a flip up headlight and a white milk crate on the back. Stone cold chick magnet, let me tell ya. Even had a cool little horn that went "toot"

So I take the motorcycle license test in their parking lot, and a little written test, and...

Now I have to retake all the separate written license tests for my commercial license: one for air brakes, one for tank, one for trailers...and you know how that goes. The DMV required that all my certs were on the same recertification cycle, even though there is normally no need to repeat tests for commercial licenses.

Five written tests later, I'm off down the road on my little scoot. Ah, bureaucracy #@&****

Always willing to join others in the Monterey/Santa Cruz/Half Moon Bay area for a bit of fishing...feel free to contact me.

One of my biggest issues is with registration. If you lose the little card they send you in the mail you can't renenew your registration at a DMV office until AFTER it expires. Who came up with that BS?

It amazes me that with all of the good hardworking laid-off people out there looking for job, that there are still so many rude retards working at the DMV.

Yeah, but so is being a patent examiner at the USPTO.  DOH! I won't go there...

E, you need to haul your a$$ over to Los Gatos DMV where they are used to catering to the "Real Housewives and MILFs of LG".  DMV-LG not only takes your picture, they'll hook you up with a friggin' hollywood headshot, complete with "manscaping" and $hit.   :smt044   Next time you get pulled over, the officer looking at your mugshot will think he pulled over Tom Sellleck (the other "Magnum" LOL)

They can take your picture while doing 70 thru a red light, and send it to you within days...  but to get it done at the DMV I have to scedule 2 appointments, taking time off work both days...

They should let McDonalds run the DMV.  License?  That's a Number two special, (click!) thank you, please come again.  Next customer, please?

Not sure if you know this, but a lot of DMV issues can be done at AAA offices. (As long as your a member)  Typically NO lines.

I've been fortunate for the last 20 or so years, I've been able to renew my license throuh the mail.  When I get home finally, I'll have to deal with re-registering my jeep, it's been Non-op for 2 years (while I'm up here in Oregon) I'll be going to a local (Near Santa Cruz) AAA to deal with that!
