Still to this date, i've never put a hole in my Hobie

Grew up with power tools in my hands; and I find it alot fun'r to work on kayaks, then re-tiling the bathrooms....

At first Chaeki was hestitant to use the drill or impact tools; but half way through, he was all up in the kayak punching holes and screws down parts. A couple more kayaks and he'll be taking over for me....

Come on by! If I do the drilling, then you can still claim that "You" never put a hole in your Hobie!  :smt044

BanjoTad,  What else do I see in your picture?

I paddle solo from the center, but also will have the full family on it next weekend, to test ride it.  Wife, Son, and myself.

The lines and pulleys you see are for a homemade V sail I made a  couple years back.

It even worked :smt003

Chaeki - G-Whiz, thanks for the inspiration.  I'm starting to see a trend - we have our fishing kayak (me OK T13) and have used the excuse of kids and friends to purchase another  :smt003

Picked up a OK Malibu Two XL today also; where did you get the hatch kits?  They look different than those on the OK, ACK, and Outdoorplay websites.  I got some cutting to do!

Hey Kenny,
Welcome to the mdanness!

I plan to start working on mine after Tiki event and hopefully will have it completely done before the start of the next kayak event season.

They actually make to types of oval gapashi, i opted for the "Ocean Kayak Cross Lock Oval Hatch Kit" which cosy $69 at AustinKayak.

If your kayak didn't come with carry straps, also get the "Kayak Side Mount Carry Handles " at $9.99; makes carry the kayak a lot easier.

Don't forget to pick up any fastners you may need for your install, most of the s/s screws, nuts and washers you can pick up at Ace Hardware; but you may want to some pop rivets from AustinK #268. just in case you can not reach inside the yak to attach a nut.

Good luck on your install! can't wait to see your results!

Glen

Thanks Glen-

A little more poking around and I've now seen the cross hatch and the gapashi.  I'm inclined to go with the cross hatch also.  I do have the side handles - and yes, I often buy the pieces and overlook the "nuts, bolts, rivets".  I'm pretty much doing the same - getting it ready for next season as I have the OK T13 already.  Want to get the family out also which is where the OK Malibu fit in.  More to follow...

Tony - I have a bad habit of jumping into a hobby and getting wrapped up in the build/rigging.  Still have to finish the T13 (waiting on transducer) - then it will be time to pimp the Malibu.  Guess I need to start learning how to fish from a kayak pretty soon  :smt003
