Swell is 1-2 ft, wind a whopping 2 kts from the north by noon, and rockfish season open. Sounds fun to me. Who's in? Not sure exactly where I'm gonna launch, but I'd like to fish some kelp beds, and the sand between them. Open to suggestions.

Wish I could make it out for the opener. Best of luck to you. I'll be out next Sat. in SC.

Where do you usually launch?

Depends on what time of year. When we get closer to summer they will have the public hand launch ramp down at the Santa Cruz wharf. This shortens your paddle by about 15 minutes. I just called and it's not setup yet so that leaves the Santa Cruz harbor. There is a public hand launch ramp next to Aldo's restaurant. Drive down the hill and park right there... unload your gear and park the car at the top of the hill for free parking.

Hope you nail 'em.

My backup launch for Sunday will be probably be the harbor. The yak launch docks got destroyed in the tsunami, but I think they are repaired now.

I'll probably be rockin my old orange Cayman yak, ch 69 on VHF.

Where are you getting your forecast for SC?  I get different results at these sites.  I didn't see 1 to 2ft swells at all for Sunday at SC.

Surfline forecast for pleasure point. Sure, it'll be bigger in less protected areas.

Where are you paddling to from the harbor? Sandy? Rocky?

No not paddling this weekend.  I wish I could.  Thanks for the  info.  Did not realize there would be so much discrepancy on the swell forecast.  Good luck.

I guess i wasn't terribly clear. Surfline is telling me that the breaking waves at Pleasure Point will be about 1-2 ft. I trust them on that based on all the times surfed pleasure point after checking their forecasts. The 1-2 ft is not a swell in the open ocean, but a breaking wave in a sheltered area where I plan to be.

A halibut would be nice, but it's the rockfish opener!
I want a lingcod, a cabezon, and a big fat vermillion. If I paddle northwest from the harbor, can I access some good reef?
