Vallejo Dave and I are planning a kayak fishing trip at the IVR early tomorrow morning.  Sorry for the short notice but companies are always welcome.  I was searching the web for kayak inspection information but can't find any.  Any up-to-date info or tips would be appreciated.

Good news!!  No inspection for kayaks.

The inspection and fee does NOT apply to canoes, kayaks, car-top boats, float tubes, rafts, wind surfers/boards, boogey boards, nonmotorized paddle boats, and nonmotorized sail boats that are eight feet or less in length.

Wish I could join you guys, but alas the evil mistress aka work, calls  :smt013  Have fun and good luck!  If your quest is for Crappie, here are a pic of last years "crop":

Here is were I caught them in 2010:

Given how high Berryessa is, I can only imagine how high IVR is.  Who knows what that will do to the fish.  Bring electronics for sure to help find them.

When I was there last year, to ride my dirtbike on the nearby trails, the lake level was very very low.
Good luck Sonny and I'm also looking forward to your report. jim

You guys are killing me.  I wish I could join but I have a committment to a friend who is battling cancer.  The weather looks pretty good all week.  Maybe some place on the Bay during the week?  My yak has been dry too long!

Thanks for the info Jim.  Hopefully the reservoir will be full with all the rain we got this year.

I had a few buddies who checked the lake out 2 weeks ago and said it was muddy still! Who knows now tho! be prepared for that long 10mile dirt road ride down to the lake. IVR has a shit load of trees in it so be prepared to loose some tackle! Lots of bass and crappie tho from what i seen and caught from the past! lake probably is still low, but should be in better condition. Really good catfishing too by the dam. Goodluck fellas, and let us kno how you do! ricci

Sony,
in the early season the north end is the place to be. I haven't fished it for many years. Now that's it's lost most of the wood from constant dropping levels, it's past it's prime. The upper end is best reached from the Walker Ridge dirt road. About 25 miles of gravel, but it puts you right in the right place. The lake is basicly like a mini Berryessa shape. The creek at the top of the lake is always good in the early season. Expect LMB, crappie and rainbows there. If yo take the gravel road in your pretty remote out there. Otherwise if you go from the dam, hit the back of the coves. good luck.

Thanks for the info and tips Glyn.  I'll discuss with my fishing partner in the morning to see what's his plan.
