In Cork Ireland for the week on business. Talk about getting the fishing itch—the fishing here is fantastic I hear but no one knows anyone who kayak fishes there. The Irish are super friendly, their hospitality is incredible, and the local pubs and the local stout (Murphy's) are great. What a safe city—walked around late at night with no worries. I wish I could get a kayak and fishing gear in my luggage for the next trip.

The River Lee, which runs right through the center of Cork is tidal and has Salmon (and maybe Steelhead) runs if you can believe it. OMG. I feel even worse not to be fishing here now :smt009

Very cool pics. The next int'l trip my wife & I take will be either Ireland or Iceland, and the pub culture is a strong "pro" for the Emerald isle.

Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.

That's awesome, Daniel - way to go having time to take care of business and check out a bit of the local scene at the same time.  Can you imagine a NorCal invasion there?!  We could come in and hold a Fish and Chill downtown along a 1500 year old stone bridge or something - good stuff.   :smt001

It is indeed magical. The Irish as big hunters and fishers. While they don't allow handguns there, many have shotguns and bird hunting is a national past time. First place I've been where they all knew the English Springer Spaniel breed (most people had one or knew someone with one); I suppose it's because they are upland bird dogs. The Irish would love a Fish and Chill and the drink would be top notch. They are incredibly friendly and courteous people and they do love a good party.

Last night (I flew out this morning their time and just got home thank to the 8-hour time difference) the pubs were overflowing into the streets—they give up drink for Good Friday and so they all came out the night before. An incredible sight—the Irish take having fun and their stout very seriously. It's good to be home with wife, kids, and dogs though finally. Now I need to put that kayak trailer together and get to fishing. See you on the water soon.

I missed the "Manteca" part Eric but apparently FishMaster1 knows the jab LOL. Same old NCKA, trash talkin' fun when we aren't fishing.

PS The fork of the River Lee I showed was the small one—it forks through town and the other is about 3-4 times that size. I can only imagine the Salmon it holds when they run.
