After a grand total of 1 day on the water in a yak, fishing for stripers, I have an observation to share :smt005 Nah, really, stop laughing :smt003. In a yak, we have an advantage that those tossing from shore don't. Yea, master of the obvious.
From shore, my presentation is pretty much always a straight one. Sure, I slow it, bump it, twitch it, stop it and can work it a little from side to side. But it's still a straight line. During my 1 day out and while trolling, I figured that I'd take advantage of the skinny floating thing some people call a boat - I'm still not sure it isn't anything more than a semi-balanced log, cause it felt like I was gonna flip at any moment, with one wrong move. Anyway, with the trap running behind me, I'm slowing my paddle, speeding it up and giving it the 'hops' by giving a couple of good ripping strokes, now and then. Then, it hit me: "I'm free."
It's pretty well agreed that stripers, like many fish, will follow a presentation; the key is to get 'em to respond. So, I ripped off two hard strokes to the left and let the yak slow; then, I ripped off  two strokes to the right. I wasn't zig-zagging because that'd be kinda like walking the dog, but underwater. I was just breaking up e rhythm. It worked and I was free to never fly straight again. Just my 2 cents and you guys are probably going, "Yea, dhello, and welcome to fishing on the water." lol

I would predict your next post will be how does chop on the water effect/enhance your presentation.

I kayak because I feel free to explore a new perspective.

I kayak fish because it is:
1)challenging because of: currents,wind,waves,power boats,propulsion,trees,deep water,balance,space constraints,etc
2)always new
3)very effective because of: stealth, presentation, maneuverability, draft, range, portability, space constraints....

so...Welcome to the Madness; kayak fishing is way more than just fishing  :)  for some at least

and how will anyone ever see something like this from shore?
Less Mental than before, Still savage AF tho <3

SS: lol. Ya stole my thunder for my next insightful post on, 'How Chop brings your Presentation to Life.' Dude, throw a rookie a bone :smt002
Now I'm gonna have to go with my next insightful post, "How to cast from a yak without flipping the boat." Or, "How to keep your lure from getting snagged in the bungy cords." I got a lot to offer. :smt001

RF: My wife asked why I was holding the laptop upside down. Great pic!
