Living up here in North Idaho I'm getting a bit stir crazy.  :smt073
I realize that if I am going to live here permanently I need to take a break each winter in March, which is my wife's spring break, and also happens to be the exact time when I began getting grumpy about the cold weather and lack of fishing.  :cold

So I pose this hypothetical question to the NCKA brain trust:
If you had a $1,500 budget and a week in late March to travel anywhere you want for a fishing trip, where would you go? Why?
The only mandatory criteria for your answer is that it must be a location that is warm, typically has good weather in March, and typically has good fishing in March. What do you say....?

I won't be going anywhere this year, since wife's break has come and gone. I'm just sitting here fantasizing about warm beaches, wading through the flats with a fishing rod, and sipping cold beers.  :smt004
If others care to dream with me, and happen to inspire me to plan for next March, all the better!

This place looks great! It appears you could rent a beach house for a week for less than $1,000.

Rancho Leonero. (Cheers Rockhopper. :smt006)
It is the only place I actually get teary eyed when I have to leave.  Although I have never been in March,  April's memories from days of yorn, flashback Sierras, roosters, jacks and dorado.
ps, they have the stripped marlin tournament there during the spring for a reason... I'm just sayin.

I don't know if they still do it, but when i lived in Wy the airlines would have these l winter escape fares from  Jackson, Idiot springs or Bozeman- you'll have to find the local papers probably-- we flew SLC to Kona + week hotel and car for like 400 each!

Rancho Leonero looks good, but I've heard that it gets real windy this time of year. Is that true?
Hawaii is a good option too, especially since my wife has never been there. I can remember during my time in the Marine Corps, Hawaii was always the last stop before we came home after a WESTPAC tour. It was a nice way to ease back into the US after months spent in the Persian Gulf and SE Asia. I would really like to go back.

Is that $1500 for both of you and including airfare?

March can be windy down in the East Cape and up to La Paz, but you should have some good windows to get out over the course of a week.

It would be ~$1500 each, including airfare. So, faraway places with expensive tickets quickly eat up the budget. Let's not get too serious though, the title of this thread is "hypothetical/fantasy" fishing.  :smt007

Kona can be pretty sweet in March. I love the Ranch but March can be windy and Sierras might be the target. Personally, I love sierras but not everybody does because wire leaders are needed. I will be at the Ranch in October in case you need a fall break.

O.K. ya got me dreaming Jay. Is the Kona/Big Isle the place to go for kayak fishing in Hawaii?
Does anything in particular make it better than say Maui or Oahu? jim
