There a slim chance that I still maybe able to make Yakhopper's first event at Clear Lake, but will be running solo (no wifey); so I was just weighing out the cost of extra fuel vs staying in comfort.

Decisions.... decisions....

I love camping, but you wanna save your energy for the time OTW.  Ride in style, G.  Either way, good luck and have a blast.   :smt001

I guess it all boils down to your funds. If you got the 45 than spend it, I would. Having said that, I crash in the van, or I pitch a tent. But I ALWAYS go with the cheapest option these days, with work not being what it once was.  That 45 might go a long way spent on something more important.

+1, Well said.

Also take into account the WAF factor.  Leaving the wife behind, fishing 2 weekends in a row (even if she did come last weekend), spending more money than necessary (taking the rig over tent camping) are all things to consider into your decision making.

I'm all about the comfort. But with that said, lately it's been about the $$$. I used to take the motorhome to phoenix for a 3-4 day weekend race. Now I won't even go race there. This weekend I wish I could fish, but will be at the racetrack instead. No motorhome this time. Pickup and sleeping in the trailer. Camp stove, ice chest, etc. Old school. Still there to win. Just less comfort. If I was going to CL it would be in a tent to save $$ now too. If you have the money, take the motorhome. Solo or not. Comfort makes everything you do easier and gives you a better chance at doing well. Good luck this weekend.

I'm self contained in my 4Runner.  Fold down the backseats, pad rolls out, bag on top and night night time.  Small cooler, camp stove, a tire to pee on...what more do you need?  :smt001

You guys are animals....if I owned a nice plush RV, tent wouldn't even be in my vocabulary. I usually have to imbibe on more than $45 in adult beverages to make me not care that I'm freezin my @ss off in a tent  :smt003  Plus, the aggravation factor of properly folding and finnagling tent poles and spikes back into the "compact" (read....way to small) little duffel bags they come in......I'm getting mad just typing about it   :smt003
..........agarcia is just an ex-kayaker

Tent = Time needed to tear down camp.

RV = Warm, Cozy, and ready to go anytime!

Ditto.  It's exactly how I've been rolling and camping lately... and when it's cold out, it helps to have a warm dog laying next to my sleeping bag. :grommit:

I sleep more soundly in the back of my truck than at home.  Padding is the key.  And a real pillow.

I will always pay the extra money to take my rv, I like to be in style.  I've done the tent camping for 30+ years, been there done that, no thanks.  I use a tent when I go back packing, in other time I use my rv.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

Glen, it's not just gas $ that adds to the RV tab, but also the extra campsite costs. Because you can't really share a site w/an RV = you'll probably have to get your own site. Whereas, if you tent-camp, you could probably share a site or just crash wherever.

:smt044  20yrs ago, I'd have no problems "Roughing it" with the tent.  Today however, having to not set up a tent, have a place thats warm and somewhat quiet, is much more perfered over a windy noisey tent.  My bones appreciate a bed so much more than a cot these days!
Unfortuately I don't have an RV I just have my campershell on my truck and I have to make due with it.  It has done the job.
My vote is, if ya got it use it!
