Maybe we need to form a fledgling "Air Force" wing of NCKA!

Of course, we are then flirting with the Double Dark Side. Pedals AND a sail.

The utility/versatility of these things is impressive though. I will be the first to admit that the sailing end of it does seem to detract from my fishing. I think it is just a phase that you must go through to get back to the other side though. The thought of near shore drift mooching for salmon from this platform later this summer has strong appeal. Same with the rockfish jigging, halibut trolling etc. The ability to cover big distance and having three propulsion options available definitely helps.

Bigger water like Clear Lake, Berryessa, Camanche and Shasta are perfect for the sail option. Get you to more than just one spot.

Eric - that picture cracks me up! Thurston Howell dude.

To me, the popular Revolution should have the exact (but smaller scale) sail option that the AI and bigger TI has. Maybe Hobie will consider it in the future if there is enough interest. The hull is lean and long just like the Adventure.

the sail on my revo is pretty big. I can't imagine larger (nor do I have the skill to use one larger). I ordered the amas and they will be here next week. The real missing item is a dagger board for the revo. The dive just doesn't have enough surface area to 'bite' I have been thinking about a home made one that will use the drive well. Kinda like the casaette with a daggerboard attached.

Maybe I need to order a 2nd casaette and fab one up!

I foresee a regata/fishing hook up coming soon!
Judge Smails can be the MC!

It's easy to grin
When your ship comes in
And you've got the stock market beat.
But the man worthwhile,
Is the man who can smile,
When his shorts are too tight in the seat.

Awesome review Mistral. Thank you! It was very informative and thoughtfully-written, too.
But yeah, you guys are dabbling in double-darkside danger lol.....I wonder if fish caught while under sail count towards the AOTY comp?

I predict the answer is "no"...  just because the sail is as much of an advantage as a motor would be, or possibly even moreso since it's silent.

The AI's are a whole different thing, and I believe anyone who gives it a try will have their horizons broadened considerably.  Logging points for fish might not be a #1 priority, I suspect.

If they ARE allowed, none of us stand a chance against Chuck in his AI...  until Otobe get's his...  then we are all screwed. :smt044

not stirring the pot (that is why I asked the comm via a PM). But nothing in the rules (at least the posted ones on the AOTY home page) says no sails. But maybe there are other rules I am not aware of. I dunno the times I have sailed it takes some major concentration using a motor is way simpler. Short of getting to and from locations there isn't much advantage. I know ppl will say you can troll under the sail but man that's a lot going on.

1. All fish entered must be caught (i.e. hooked, fought, and landed) from a kayak, without the aid of a powerboat and using methods deemed legal by the California Department of Fish and Game.

HaHa!! Sailed my Revo on Saturday. It was half joy and half panic but what a BLAST!  I took a short video while holding on for dear life through parts of it. At about the 120 second point in the video the kayak was booking.

Good stuff Allen. I am getting the Ama's today for the revo. Will feel more comfortable putting the hammer down in a stiff breeze with them in place. Used them a bit on Friday but the wind was off and on....Nice way to listen to the Giants home opener!

Nice video!

Those Revo's book under sail. I know the feeling when that wind comes up and the waves start peeling water off of the tops. Hang on. Fear and fun at the same moment.
