Went out to Chabot again today to enjoy the nice warm sun  :smt007 and being out on the water. I must have been there at least 10 times last year for nada. Today it was different !

I started trolling a large rapalla around the left side from the dock past the dam and then it was time for lunch and a home brew.  :smt004. Then came out the fly rod and worked the small coves and noticed some fish jump but no takers. Then it was back to a broken back R7 and to paddle home. As I was thinking it would be another skunk day my rod went nuts and so did I. Checked to make sure it was not a snag and yep it was alive!

Swung it around and started to reel it in, checked the drag was light enough so it would not break. He was a  fighter and did not to surface. I could only see some large silver flash about 4 feet down. Worked him up and it was a nice one! Played him for about 5 min. up and down 2 - 5 feet and then he slid in the net. oooo

This one is for Mooch ! thanks for the Trout document I put it into practice today. I also noticed a newbee out on the water ... did not get his name but he has a sweet yak setup. Orange Hobie Adventure with fly fishing setup.

Turns out he was a chunky 17 " Could not have been a better day out there!

Cheers

So thanks to the Chabot Trout 17 I had a tasty dinner with some salad and the best brew Launutas little sumpin sumpin ale. So do most large trout have pink meat like this or is it more of a steelhead trout?

Normally the pink meat trout are from Mt Lassen hatchery, at least that is what I understand. Another good lure for Chabot is a Gold Phobie. Its an old cheap lure , but works well there. Of course I never go to a bay area lake without a Gold Kastmaster.
