I've been using a spinning reel for my ocean excursions since I started yak fishing but am now interested in looking into purchasing a saltwater baitcasting reel.

What are some suggestions for a relatively inexpensive setup within a budget of $100 if any?

Penn jigmaster 500 on an Ugly stick is probably a good way to start.  ( May run closer to $130.00)  Easily maintained if dunked.  No levelwind, but casts great with some practice.  Heavy enough for WSB or albacore if you are that lucky and no problem using it to dunk for rockfish.  You can get some good deals on e-bay for older models 40-55 bucks if you look.---Lots of other great choices out there, but I grew up throwing jigs and live bait with the jigmaster and I am partial to it.-----Jeff

I'd have to agree. For ~$100 you probably coudn't do any better than a Jigmaster/UglyStik combo as an "all-around" saltwater combo. It will work best jigging for rockfish, but can be casted when needed, and it's an easy setup to maintain. Back when I used to do a lot of pier fishing I used a jigmaster/Ugly Stik combo for just about everything.

Awesome.  Thanks guys.
I'm down in Redondo Beach now so I won't be doing as much rockcod fishing as I used to do in Monterey, but the bass, Hali's and yellowfins should hopefully keep me busy down here.  Can't wait to get back up north this summer!
Thanks again.
