Does anybody have info on fishing at Lodi Lake. I am going to go tomorrow for a St. Pattys paddle put on by The Headwaters Kayak shop. I figured while I was there, I should drop a line. What kind of fish are there?

Trout and possible steelhead. Can only keep hatchery fish. There are also the usual suspects of bass, perch and crappie. BIG carp in there too.

I fished for about an hour at lodi lake earlier this week. It was my first time fishing out there and really just a fun way to burn an hour. I tried bobber fishing to start but switched to bouncing a night crawling on the bottom. I picked up a nice common carp and sacramento sucker. Not exactly prime eating but they put up good fights. If you want to target trout there are definitely trout in the Mokelumne. Enjoy it, the Mokelumne is a nice paddle. If I were you I would take along a few spinner, jigs, and small rapala count downs and work those while you paddle. Just my two cents.

Oh and say hi to Dan. He's got a great shop there and Headwaters and really knows his stuff.

Interesting post!  I am just a few minutes from Lodi Lake and never considered fishing it.........
where is the headwaters kayak shop?  there used to be a shop in Lodi that sold kayaks and they would have weekly meets on Lodi Lake but they closed up last year.

Yeah Headwaters is on Turner road just east of 99. Here's the address: 847 North Cluff Avenue, Suite B-2. Here is his website:

Headwaters is a great shop. Dan is the owner/operator. I am fairly certain he used to work at the shop you are talking about that shut down. He has lots of great new and used boats at his shop as well as tons of gear. He actually has some pretty neat and unique boats which are fun to look at. Plus he really knows his stuff too if you ever have a question about a place to paddle or repairs on your boat. He does weekly paddles at lodi lake. I think its either $25 or $35 to rent a boat or its free to tag along if you have your own boat. vwool can probably give you more details since he participated in the paddle last week.

atavuss and vwool, let me know if you ever want to paddle/fish lodi lake and the Mokelumne. I only fished it that one time from shore but if I paddled it I was thinking about trying for trout and steelhead for awhile and if that doesn't turned anything up just anchor and try for some big carp and suckers.

vwool, have you tried fishing the sloughs in Suisun Marsh for stripers at all? I see you're located in Suisun City. I tried last wednesday but the wind on Montezuma slough really wore me down after an hour of paddling against it trying to get to the spot where I wanted to fish.

That paddling club in Lodi looks like they are not interested in fishing----but they do have some tours into sloughs that look very interesting.  I am glad to know that they are there off HWY99 in case I need to order something/get advice.  I will have my mobile back inside the levee 7 miles below Isleton by the end of the month.  Was going to be there next Wed. but with the releases from the dams and the weather, I will wait 'til the weather settles April15th? or so.  I AM ITCHING TO GET TO THE PORT WITH SOME of you who have first hand experience.   Will share my knowledge of Salmon/smallmouth fishing on the Old Sac with anyone who needs/wants it.---Jeff

Hey Guys,

Dan here from the Headwaters Kayak Shop. After hearing lots of great stuff about Nor Cal Kayak Anglers I took the time to sign up today. I'm a long time kayaker and fisherman, but am new to kayak fishing. I'm diving into it head first. I figure since I own a kayak shop in the middle of so much great fishing, I better service that need. I'm hoping to build a group of yak fisherman here in town that goes out for monthly or bi monthly fishing trips, as well as host a fishing derby/ tournament. I also thought it would be cool to have give a talk at the store about yak fishing, and kayak outfitting. It seems that kayak fishing in this area is really becoming popular and I would love to unite/ support the growing community in any way I can.

Anyone up for having a meeting and seeing what kind of interest we could drum up?

Went Yak fishing there last summer. Caught some LMB (drop shotting) worms by the tullies by the launch area. I saw some trout as well by the overhanging branches and tullies.
