Got permission from my wife for 2 hours of fishing in exchange for some yardwork and home improvement project later in the day.  I think I got short end of the stick but I'll take it :smt017.  Fished between dumbarton bridge and the railroad track in 50' of water.  First time fishing this spot on a kayak.  Not much movement in the water.  A bunch of small leopard shark on herring.  Had one that resembled a sturgeon pump but waited too long and got my bait stolen.  It was only about 10 min paddle to the fishing ground.  Easy access for launching, from the beach to the truck 20'-30' walk.  Will definately try this spot again when the tide gets bigger next week.  Company welcome.

Thanks for the info. Got more questions for you -
Where is the launching spot - Which side of the bridge and how to get there? Any tips on parking and launching would be appreciated. In this area, which bait is more effective - Herrings or Ghost shrimps?

Eyeatbay,
I launched at the dumbarton fishing pier on the Newark / Fremont side (east bay).  If you're coming from Palo Alto, go over the Dumbarton bridge take the first exist after the bridge. Turn Right on Thornton Ave . Right on Marshlands Rd. very easy to get to. just follow the sign to dumbarton fishing pier. Park at the base of the fishing pier there's a parking lot there in front of a sandy beach area.  20 to 30 feet walk depending on tide. easy launching. avoid minus tide.  Hope that helps.

By a chance, do you have contact info for that place (address and phone number)? I did not find it in google.

cool report, like to hear about those south bay opportunities.

are you anchoring in 50' of water, or drifting?

or something else entirely?
(giant super conducting magnet allowing geosychronous orbit perhaps?)

Jmairey,
I was anchored in the channel about 50' judging by the amount of rope left.  Thanks to ChuckE, I pretty much copied his anchoring system, It works great.  Haven't had the opportunity to try the anchor release but I am sure it'll work fine.

i often fish between dumbarton and train bridge, but pretty cold lately.  if coming from palo alto side i just take the ravenswood exit (right before bridge on palo alto side) and lauch.  you don't have to pay toll for bridge and it saves you 5 miles of driving each way.
