In order to maximize your time on the water, certain practicalities must be addressed.   One is your WAF account.  If your WAF account is not well maintained, the best boat and the greatest skill will be for naught.

What is WAF you ask?  Wife Approval Factor¹.  Unless your anthem is Brad Paisley’s “I’m Gonna Miss Her”², you will maximize your fishing opportunities and general pleasure if you keep this account full.  You need a healthy account in order to get onto the water more than twice a year.  You can do things that will add to your account and make your absences from home free of acrimony with some forethought and planning.

For example, i. . .

Seabreeze contributes a great article on building and maintaining WAF. Thanks Pat!

Funny article Pat I think instead of a T-Shirt Bill should award you the first NCKA Strait Jacket.

What about taking her dog fishing I get a lotta points for that that since women seem to love their dogs more than anybody else.

Too bad it took me 3 months to heal after installing the sprinkler system.  ;)

I've got so much WAF stored up that she asks why I haven't gotten a new GPS or a suunto D3 yet.  I guess I should cash in my WAF for gear during the off-season here.

I found a great new trick to earn cash WAF too: get the repair manual for your car(s) and fix them using parts from pick-n-pull.  You've never seen serious WAF until she was told a new alternator and brake cylender would cost $500 each, and you go and do it for $26 each. :white

Great Job Pat,

According to your article I have about 20,000 WAF points in my account.  If I quit my job how long do I have? :smt003

You just don't ever want to find yourself in the trenches over fishing

I totally agree! Just like what George Clooney said in the movie "The Perfect Storm"...(just before they sunk)......."The fish will gather again for the Andrea Gail...."

Jason, re-read the introductory paragraphs.  Fishing while your wife is working can be very expensive on the WAF.....unless you have also saved up lots of cash so that she doesn't have to work..............

Paul, I think part of what I like about this board is that most folks are happy with themselves and their lives and it shows.

Happy Valentines day to all......... :smt008

Hey Pat,

Great article.  I never thought WAF would catch on so big with this forum.  BTW, when do I get to start cashing in on all that lifetime WAF credit that I've waited over nine months for? I haven't been fishing in over two months!  Actually, to tell you the truth, I really haven't tried to go fishing yet, so that's an unfair question.  Nevermind.
