Hi kayakers,

I am new to the site, but I long time ocean kayaker.

I want to add a video camera to my kayak and would love to talk to guys who already have camera's on their kayaks and have learned the pro's and con's of different set-ups.  I am most interested in folks that have played around and hopefully mastered having video cameras mounted high off their kayaks, like 4-5 feet above their kayaks, possibly on some sort of pvc pipe extension.  One of my many hobbies is grabbing home run baseballs from McCovey Cove and I want to start videotaping the exciting moments.  If you are a Giants fan, you probably have seen me in McCovey Cove.  I grabbed the last two Giants splash hits and 6 HR's overall last year.   Here is my cell number to reach me or send me your cell and I will call you at your convenience.  I would be happy to share knowledge about McCovey Cove to all.  There is not a lot of fishing there except of the baseball kind.

Hi Dave,

There are a lot of ways to mount a GoPro to the back of the kayak but once you start looking at storage, rods, etc. space becomes limited. I didnt want something directly behind me as during the fight this might become hard to turn off and on.

What I did was made a 1/2' OD PVC extension, roughly 2.5ft in length, that I stick in the rear rod mount. To keep the PVC in place I wrapped the bottom 4" with foam from a noodle (stuff kids play in the pool with). I then wrapped the noodle foam tightly with tape to reach the ID (Inside Diameter) of the rod mount. The foam will keep the PVC from turning during fighting or paddling.

This length of PVC and distance from the angler is good for me and the videos I have made show everything I want in the video.

I have a nonHD GoPro. Keep in mind these cameras are fish eye.

Welcome Dave.
Right when I saw your NCKA handle I knew who it was. I didn't even need a last name.
You should have posted this video of you.

Great video. The shot of them showing the stadium lights is very cool.
