We had a great time down on the Osa Peninsula fishing out of Encanta La Vida a few weeks back. Encanta La Vida is not a fishing lodge, but is only yards from the water and they can facilitate anything you need to get you out fishing. Even if you don't fish I recommend a trip down there, it is amazing. Waking each morning to howler monkey's doing there thing is very cool. We fished a ton but also went surfing, hiking and repelling down waterfalls. The inshore fishing was a bit tough but by putting in a lot of hours on the water we landed some nice roosters, jacks and sierra. We went about five miles offshore on one day and found a lot of sails, we hooked three and landed two. Could have easily landed more if we were more aggressive about getting the fish solo rather pulling in the lines whenever there was a hookup. As I was the only with experience landing bills it meant I was the leader man again and spent little time with a line in the water myself. So I didn't get one but was stoked for my friends Steve and Joe for getting theirs. These were much bigger sails than we have caught in Baja, over 100 pounds each and really put on a show for the camera. It was awesome.

A quick Catch photo and release.

We fished with Steve Jurries and Joe Lynberg while down there. They both have the kayaks, gear and knowledge to get you on fish down there. If you go I highly recommend hooking up with them, great guys to fish with.

I caught a Sailfish from a charter boat years ago but would love to catch one from the yak.  Guess I need to raise a "piggy" for this trip.  Thanks for the report and pictures Jim.

Welcome to Costa Rica.  The sails average over 100 pounds there.  No kidding.

Nice to see you got on them Jim.  Looking forward to more pics/stories.

Costa Rica is on my hit list for 2012.  I fished down there from power boats a number of times, but have yet to do the yak deal there.

Great report and pics!!! My wife and I took  the 3 kids down there ( back when I had $$$$) and it is  the BEST. We ended up going back without the kids the next year! Great people, great food, great fishing, great everything. We are hoping to retire early down there. Both times we went were to Crocodile Bay Lodge, on the Osa. Just seeing those pics makes me want to go right now!

The biggest rooster we caught was right in front of Crocodile bay lodge, most of our fishing and where we stayed was about 45 minutes north up a very bumpy dirt road.

Just a quick question Jim. How long did it take to land the sailfish? Thanks for the
report and pictures.
